CodeSandbox review
A collaborative sandbox for prototypes, previews, and AI-assisted development.

CodeSandbox provides browser-based and virtual-machine development environments for developers, teams, educators, and AI applications. It supports creating, running, sharing, and collaborating on projects in isolated sandboxes, with access through the web, VS Code, or iOS. GitHub repository import, Dev Container configuration, Docker support, live previews, and hot reload make it suited to collaborative sandbox work, prototypes, code execution, and development workflows that benefit from shareable environments.
The plan structure scales from an accessible free SDK Editor tier to team and enterprise use. SDK Editor includes 5 members, 40 hours of monthly VM credits, unlimited Browser and VM Sandboxes, Private Sandboxes, and a VS Code extension. Scale adds up to 20 members, 160 hours of monthly VM credits, on-demand VM credits, 250 concurrent VMs, and the CodeSandbox SDK. Enterprise includes custom deployment, unlimited members, bespoke concurrent VMs, dedicated support, and SOC 2 Type II compliance. The published plan cards therefore separate personal or small-team sandbox work from larger, managed deployments.
CodeSandbox’s standout strength is the combination of isolated execution and programmable environments. Teams can create and manage sandboxes through the SDK, use snapshots and cloning, resume environments automatically, and configure continuous branch prebuilds. Collaborative coding, shareable development environments, AI agent workflows, and code interpretation extend its usefulness beyond a basic online editor. It is a strong fit for teams that want browser-accessible prototypes, repeatable development environments, and collaborative previews. Organizations needing broader verified platform coverage or workflows centered outside GitHub and browser-based use should consider alternatives with a wider ecosystem.
CodeSandbox pros and cons

- Dev Containers, Docker, and Docker Compose support
- Live collaboration, previews, prebuilds, and AI workflows
- Where it doesn't
- Verified integrations center on GitHub, VS Code, Docker, and Codeium
- Platform coverage is narrower outside browser-based development
- Advanced VM capacity and SDK access require paid tiers
