Our verdict on CMDBuild READY2USE

CMDBuild READY2USE is an open-source IT governance, asset-management, and service-management application for medium to large organizations. It is designed for teams that need to manage configuration items across workstations, servers, networks, software, services, and infrastructure from an organization-controlled web server. The platform also covers software licenses, installed-software correlation, contracts, dependencies, and asset operations such as receiving, assignment, transfers, replacement, and disposal. Its AGPL distribution and self-hosted deployment make it a fit for organizations that want control over their ITAM and ITSM environment.

Its strongest capability is breadth. The published feature set combines configuration-item inventory with ITIL-oriented Incident, Request Fulfilment, Change, and Problem Management workflows, plus service catalogues, SLAs, KPIs, work orders, configurable reports, dashboards, relationships, and data models. Barcode and QR-code recognition support operational inventory work, while GIS and BIM support extend the model to maps, floor plans, and 3D models. Connectors cover Active Directory, OCS Inventory, Microsoft SCCM, VMware vCenter, and Amazon AWS, giving it a broad ecosystem fit for infrastructure teams with varied systems.

The plan structure separates downloadable software from a more supported appliance option. Self-Service provides AGPL software for self-installation with standard features. Subscription adds a ready-to-use appliance, maintainer support, a mobile app, Self-Service Portal, and connectors. The portal supports incidents, requests, assigned assets, FAQs, and IT news. Organizations with the skills and preference for self-managed infrastructure should consider Self-Service; teams seeking packaged delivery, support, mobile access, and connectors should consider Subscription. It is less suitable for buyers seeking a simple, narrowly focused inventory tool with minimal workflow configuration or self-hosting responsibilities.
