Our verdict on Cloudron
Cloudron is a self-hosted platform for installing, managing, updating, backing up, and securing web applications on infrastructure you control. It is suited to individuals, developers, small organizations, and teams that want a web dashboard instead of handling every deployment task manually. The platform provides one-click installation through the Cloudron App Store, automated DNS setup, certificate management, firewall configuration, centralized users and access controls, email services, and Docker support for supported applications. It runs through web, API, Linux, and self-hosted environments, while requiring an existing server.
Pricing is structured around Free, Pro, and Max plans. Free costs €0 per month with monthly billing and supports two apps. Pro costs €30 per month with monthly billing or €15 per month with annual billing, adding unlimited apps, app updates, per-app backups, a firewall, an email solution, and Single Sign-On. Max costs €50 per month with monthly billing or €25 per month with annual billing. It includes unlimited apps, app updates, user groups and roles, a directory server, multiple backup sites, and VPN-only app access. This makes Free a practical fit for a small deployment, while Pro covers broader application management and Max adds deeper team and access controls.
Cloudron’s main strength is the breadth of operational automation around self-hosting. It can provision servers through AWS, DigitalOcean, Hostinger, Linode, Time4VPS, and Vultr, while backup storage integrations include Amazon S3, Google Cloud Storage, and DigitalOcean Spaces. Per-app and full-platform backups support restore and migration, and dashboard and email notifications cover application, backup, certificate, disk, and server events. Choose Cloudron if you want to run several web apps on your own infrastructure with centralized maintenance and security controls. Choose an alternative if you need hosting without managing an existing server or only want a narrowly focused deployment tool.
