Our verdict on Cloudflare Containers
Cloudflare Containers runs container images as part of applications built with Cloudflare Workers. It is aimed at developers and teams already using Workers who want to run workloads in isolated Linux VMs and control them through Worker code and Durable Objects. Support for any programming language or runtime leaves the application choice open, while the Workers connection makes this a more natural fit for that ecosystem than for teams seeking a standalone container host.
The service supports Dockerfile-based builds with Wrangler and deployment of pre-built images from Cloudflare Registry, Docker Hub, Amazon ECR, and Google Artifact Registry. Containers start on demand and can scale to zero; regional and jurisdictional placement is also available, with nine placement regions documented. Workers and Durable Objects provide routing and lifecycle control, and Workers Logs provides observability. SSH access to running containers is available through Wrangler. These capabilities suit workloads that benefit from Workers coordination and regional placement, but the published details do not describe built-in autoscaling for stateless applications.
According to the published plan, Containers are available on Workers Paid, which starts at $5 per month. The plan includes 25 GiB-hours of memory usage, 375 vCPU-minutes, and 200 GB-hours of disk usage monthly. Disk is ephemeral, so persistent data requires external storage such as R2 or Durable Object storage. That trade-off is important for stateful services: teams should plan their storage around those Cloudflare services rather than expect durable local container disks. Choose Containers if Workers integration, on-demand execution, and placement options are central to the deployment. A team that needs built-in stateless autoscaling or persistent container storage should consider an alternative.
