Our verdict on ClipStitch
ClipStitch is a free, open-source Windows desktop app for joining video clips, with a matching command-line interface. Its folder-based graphical workflow and automatic ordering suit solo users or small teams stitching a collection of clips without arranging every file manually. It supports MP4, MPEG/MPG, MOV, MKV, WebM, AVI and GIF, and creates H.264 MP4 output. The Windows-only desktop focus makes it a poor fit for browser-based workflows or users on other platforms.
Ordering and normalization are the most useful differentiators for mixed folders. Clips can be arranged naturally or numerically, or by modified time; filename trailing-number range filtering helps select a subset. When dimensions differ, ClipStitch can scale and pad clips to a common canvas. These options make it more than a basic joiner for sequential clips, though the documented output is H.264 MP4. The CLI exposes pattern, range, output and quality options, making it a practical alternative to the graphical workflow when repeatable commands matter.
For uniform source clips, stream-copy mode can join without re-encoding, preserving a lossless path; that mode is conditional rather than a general promise for mismatched inputs. ClipStitch is open source and has a free plan, with no paid tiers described. Published documentation covers Windows installation and a 1.0.1 installer, but does not establish limits for file size or resolution. Choose it for local, folder-oriented stitching on Windows, especially when automatic ordering or CLI controls help. Look elsewhere if you need a browser-based tool, another desktop platform or output formats beyond H.264 MP4.
