Our verdict on CactusVPN
CactusVPN is a paid consumer VPN service for people seeking encrypted internet access, IP-address privacy, streaming access, and torrent support. It provides applications for Windows, macOS, Linux, Android, iOS, Android TV, and Fire TV, plus a Chrome extension. One subscription supports unlimited simultaneous devices and bandwidth, making it suited to households or users with several devices who need broad protocol compatibility.
Protocol and control options are the main strengths. CactusVPN supports WireGuard, OpenVPN, SSTP, SoftEther, IKEv2, L2TP/IPSec, and PPTP. It also includes system-level and application-level kill switches, split tunneling, DNS leak protection, and VPN traffic obfuscation using obfsproxy. Smart DNS and proxy servers add options for streaming and access scenarios, while shared static IP addresses provide another connection choice. The service's published plan highlights include independently audited no-logs and AES-256 encryption.
Pricing is structured across three paid plans. Monthly costs $15 per month and includes Smart DNS, unlimited devices, and a 30-day money-back guarantee. Annual costs $70 per year, with the rate locked at $70 per year for life. The 2-year plan costs $95 per two years, locks that rate for life, and is presented as the lowest per-month rate offered. A three-day trial is available. CactusVPN is a strong fit for users prioritizing protocol choice and device flexibility, but users wanting broader geographic coverage should look for a VPN with more than 25 server countries.
