Our verdict on Browsersync

Browsersync is an open-source Node.js utility for developers who need to view and control web projects across connected browsers and devices during local development. It synchronizes clicks, scrolling, refreshes, and form inputs, helping teams compare browser behavior from one coordinated session. The tool supports Windows, macOS, Linux, and an API, and includes a local static file server for projects that do not already use a development server.

Its strongest feature is synchronized interaction. Browsersync can automatically inject CSS changes or trigger full-page reloads when project files change, while URL history and synchronized URL pushing help keep connected browsers aligned. A browser-based control interface, command-line interface, and JavaScript API provide several ways to manage sessions. Proxy mode supports existing development servers, and network throttling allows developers to examine behavior on slower connections. Public tunnels extend access to local development servers when remote viewing is needed.

Browsersync fits workflows using Gulp, Grunt, or Node.js and is available as free, open-source software. Its focus is narrow but clear: coordinated, live browser checking during development. It is not positioned as an automated browser execution or visual regression tool, so teams needing repeatable automated suites or visual comparison workflows should choose a more specialized product. Pick Browsersync when synchronized manual review, automatic reloads, local serving, and development-server proxying are the priorities; look elsewhere when broader test automation is central.
