Our verdict on Bandwidth Monitor

Bandwidth Monitor is a self-hosted network monitoring application for people who want local visibility into bandwidth and network behavior. Its real-time web dashboard covers per-interface traffic rates and history, top talkers, host traffic details, protocol and IP-version breakdowns, connection tracking, NAT visibility, latency, topology, and network diagnostics. The dashboard daemon runs on Linux, while a separately packaged bandwidth-top terminal viewer supports Linux and macOS.

The project is distributed as AGPL-3.0 open-source software. Its scope is centered on traffic visibility rather than a broad cloud monitoring suite: the dashboard brings together interface activity, host details, protocol analysis, latency information, and client topology in one self-hosted application. That makes it a practical fit for users who want to inspect local network behavior directly and prefer an open-source deployment model.

Optional integrations extend the dashboard with DNS data from AdGuard Home, NextDNS, or Pi-hole, plus WiFi data from UniFi or Omada. JSON and Server-Sent Events APIs provide additional access to monitoring data. Choose Bandwidth Monitor if you need self-hosted, real-time insight into local interfaces, clients, protocols, NAT, and diagnostics. It is less suitable if you need a single package that provides the dashboard across operating systems, or if optional DNS and WiFi integrations are central to your workflow but those services are not part of your environment.
