Our verdict on Backtrace
Backtrace is an error and crash monitoring platform for software development, support, QA, gaming, mobile, and web teams. It captures structured reports from runtime errors, panics, core dumps, minidumps, crashes, hangs, and exceptions across Windows, macOS, Linux, iOS, Android, and web environments. Its focus is broader and deeper than basic exception tracking, particularly for native applications and games that need detailed crash investigation.
Pricing starts with the free Developer plan for a single developer, including up to 25,000 monthly errors, one month of retention, and 10 GB of storage. The Standard plan costs $600 per user per year with annual billing and includes up to 1 million monthly errors, three months of retention, 100 GB of storage, and additional error capacity and storage options. A Mobile option is also listed at $600 per user per year. Professional adds unlimited errors, custom retention, on-premises or selected cloud-provider and region deployments, and priority support. The paid entry point is substantial, so the free plan is the clearest fit for individual evaluation or smaller usage.
Backtrace stands out through structured, searchable reports and analysis tools that query, filter, sort, group, and aggregate error attributes. Automated deduplication, call-stack analysis, dump and attachment storage, custom metadata, retention controls, and PII or data scrubbing support more involved investigations. Workflow and CI/CD integrations include Slack, Jira, PagerDuty, Datadog, Microsoft Teams, GitHub, Discord, and Jenkins, while session replay supports browser errors. Choose Backtrace when crash forensics, platform coverage, or deployment control matters most; teams seeking a lower-cost paid starting point or a narrower monitoring workflow should look elsewhere.
