Azure Storage Mover is a Microsoft-managed hybrid service for moving files and folders from on-premises shares and supported cloud sources into Azure Storage. It is designed for organizations planning cloud, multicloud, or large-scale file-share migrations. Supported workloads include SMB and NFS shares, AWS S3, AWS FSx SMB, GCS S3, and Azure Blob Storage, with Azure Blob containers and Azure Files as targets. Both agent-based and agentless migration workloads are supported.

The published Free plan provides all current Azure Storage Mover capabilities at no charge. That includes migration projects, endpoints, job definitions, one-time or recurring schedules, Mirror and Merge copy modes, and online catch-up after an Azure Data Box bulk transfer. The service can preserve supported timestamps, ACLs, file attributes, and directory structure. Azure storage, storage-transaction, and networking charges can still apply, so the service price does not represent the full cost of a migration. The batch model also makes scheduled repetition different from always-on continuous transfer.

For operational control, Azure Storage Mover provides migration progress, job-run telemetry, metrics, and optional copy logs. Its ecosystem connects with Azure Blob Storage, Azure Files, Azure Data Box, Azure Key Vault, and Azure Monitor, while also accepting supported AWS and Google Cloud sources. This makes it a strong fit for teams moving file data into Azure while retaining access controls and directory structure. Organizations seeking destinations outside Azure, or requiring a continuously running transfer model, should consider a different migration approach. Azure-focused teams that want scheduled, reportable migrations without a separate service fee should choose Azure Storage Mover.
