Our verdict on AWS Device Farm
AWS Device Farm is a managed cloud service for automated testing across desktop browser instances and real physical mobile devices. It is intended for teams testing Android, iOS, Fire OS, web applications, and desktop web applications without provisioning testing infrastructure. Supported workflows include Appium, XCTest, XCTest UI, Instrumentation, and built-in fuzz testing. Remote access to physical devices through a browser also supports interactive device access alongside automated runs.
Pricing is usage-based for the pay-as-you-go options. Desktop browser testing starts at $0.005 per browser instance minute and includes parallel browser instances. Real mobile device testing costs $0.17 per device minute and includes a one-time 1,000-device-minute trial. The Unlimited test and access plan costs $250 per device slot per month for unlimited testing and remote access, with pricing varying by usage type and device family. Private devices cost $200 per month for dedicated physical devices with exact hardware and software configurations. Teams should select pay-as-you-go pricing for variable usage and consider monthly device options when dedicated access or ongoing testing is required.
Its strongest fit is a cloud-based test workflow that needs real-device coverage, cross-browser testing, and detailed run artifacts. Test results can include video, logs, screenshots, and performance data, while device location, locale, network, and prerequisite-app configuration support broader test conditions. Jenkins, Gradle, AWS CLI, and the Device Farm API connect the service to development and continuous-integration workflows, and AWS CLI and API-based scheduling support automated execution. Teams seeking private labs, remote physical-device access, and framework support have a broad testing environment here. Teams requiring a free plan or mobile testing outside the us-west-2 AWS Region should choose another service.
