Our verdict on AutoShade

AutoShade is a free, open-source RAW photo development application and command-line tool for solo photographers and small teams that want local processing. It combines AI-assisted recipe proposals with deterministic controls for exposure, white balance, curves, HSL and color grading. The project supports numerous camera RAW formats and common raster formats, exports copies while preserving originals, and runs through a desktop GUI, command line or local web interface on Windows, macOS and Linux. Linux distribution is command-line only.

The published project terms identify MIT licensing and no commercial subscription tiers, so the core application is available without a paid plan. AutoShade connects with Adobe Lightroom and Adobe Camera Raw through sidecar read/write interoperability, allowing edits to move between those applications. Its desktop deployment and local processing suit workflows where files stay on the computer, while the CLI and local web UI provide alternate ways to run the same application. Support centers on documentation, which fits technically comfortable users managing an open-source tool.

Noise reduction operates before demosaicing, giving AutoShade a distinct place in a RAW workflow rather than treating denoising only as a finishing filter. Local brush, radial, luminance-range and color-range masks support selective adjustments, while HDR, exposure-fusion, focus and noise stacking extend the application into multi-image work. Choose AutoShade if you want open-source software, local control, sidecar exchange and a broader development toolkit around RAW denoising. A dedicated denoiser may be a closer fit for photographers who do not need development controls, stacking or command-line access.
