Our verdict on Nik Dfine
Nik Dfine is a desktop noise-reduction plug-in in DxO’s Nik Collection 9 suite for Windows and macOS. It is aimed at photographers and editors who work in supported host applications and need control over both overall and targeted noise correction. The plug-in analyzes image noise automatically or manually, then addresses contrast and color noise while preserving edges. Its workflow is local rather than cloud-based, and the product is sold as part of a perpetual suite license.
The published plans show a Nik Collection 9 new license with a perpetual license and downloads for Mac or Windows, plus a Nik Collection 9 upgrade option for eligible owners. The starting price is 22900 JPY one-time, and a 30-day free trial is available. Because Dfine is delivered within the suite, buyers also receive its host integrations rather than purchasing a standalone Dfine license. Supported applications include Adobe Photoshop, Photoshop Elements, Lightroom Classic, Serif Affinity Photo, and DxO PhotoLab, giving it a practical fit for established desktop editing environments.
Dfine’s strongest distinction is selective control: users can combine automatic or manual measurement with local adjustments, color-range targeting, Photoshop noise-correction brushes, edge preservation, JPEG artifact reduction, debanding, and saved camera/noise profiles. Batch processing is available through supported host workflows. The trade-off is a conventional plug-in workflow: RAW camera files must be converted to JPEG or TIFF first, and there is no AI denoising mode. Choose Nik Dfine when mature host compatibility, profile-based processing, and detailed selective corrections matter; choose another tool when direct RAW handling or AI-focused denoising is central.
