Our verdict on Arcserve UDP

Arcserve UDP is backup and recovery software for organizations protecting physical, virtual, hyperconverged, and cloud workloads. It combines centralized management with image-based backup, replication, virtual standby, instant VM recovery, bare-metal recovery, and application-consistent backup. The product supports Windows and Linux systems and provides agentless protection for VMware, Microsoft Hyper-V, Nutanix AHV, and Proxmox. It is suited to small organizations, lean IT teams, and organizations that need broader data resilience across local, remote, and cloud destinations.

Arcserve UDP is sold through editions rather than published prices. Standard is positioned for small organizations and includes standard data backup, basic data protection, and standard data recovery. Advanced is aimed at lean IT teams, with standard data backup, standard data protection, and standard data recovery. Premium adds advanced data backup, advanced data protection, advanced data recovery, advanced ransomware detection, and advanced recovery testing for organizations requiring broader resilience capabilities. A 30-day trial is available, while the product does not have a permanent free plan.

Recovery validation is a notable focus. UDP includes automated disaster recovery testing and recovery validation, alongside replication, immutable backup storage integration, deduplication, compression, and AI-assisted anomaly detection and backup operations. Its integration set covers VMware vSphere, Microsoft Hyper-V, Nutanix AHV, Proxmox, Amazon AWS, Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud, Wasabi, Amazon S3, Microsoft SQL Server, Microsoft Exchange, and Oracle. Choose Arcserve UDP if validated recovery across supported hypervisors and multiple workload types matters. Organizations needing protection outside those four listed hypervisors should compare products with different platform coverage.
