Our verdict on Android Free Manager

Android Free Manager (AFM) is an open-source, multi-tenant mobile device management platform for Android Enterprise devices. It is positioned as a reference implementation for small managed service providers and system integrators, with web, API, and self-hosted deployment options. Teams can enroll devices by QR code, link, or token; manage Android Enterprise policies; distribute applications; review fleet status; and issue remote commands from one platform.

AFM fits organizations already working within Google's Android management ecosystem. It is built on the Google Android Management API and exposes REST API groups based on that API, while Managed Google Play supports application distribution. The feature set covers 150+ policy fields, fleet dashboards, compliance reports, multi-tenancy, and remote lock, reboot, wipe, and password-reset commands. That combination gives small teams a broad Android control surface without a proprietary license fee, while preserving an API path for integrations and automation.

Deployment is self-hosted, and the repository describes Docker Compose deployment, so the operating team owns setup and ongoing administration. The published release is not actively maintained and is not intended as a production-supported commercial product. AFM therefore suits small teams, MSPs, and integrators that want an inspectable Android Enterprise reference platform and can manage their own hosting. Organizations needing active maintenance, commercial production support, or coverage beyond Android should choose a different mobility management product.
