Our verdict on AllegroGraph
AllegroGraph is a semantic graph database for organizations building knowledge graphs, data fabrics, and AI applications. It stores RDF, graph, vector, document, and temporal data, with support for SPARQL, OWL reasoning, SHACL, rules, and Prolog. Its audience is teams that need semantic modeling and querying alongside operational capabilities such as replication, federation, and horizontal sharding. Browser-based administration, AGWebView, and Gruff add management, visualization, and visual query-building options.
The pricing structure gives teams a defined entry point. The Free plan supports up to 5 million triples and has no expiration date. The Enterprise plan provides unlimited triples, no server limit, and deployment on-premises or in the cloud. Enterprise pricing is quote-based. Both editions are also available through the AWS and Microsoft Azure Marketplaces with hourly pricing. That makes AllegroGraph suitable for evaluation and smaller graph stores, while larger deployments can align capacity and hosting with enterprise requirements.
Its main strength is the combination of semantic depth and operational breadth. AllegroGraph supports RDF, RDFS, OWL, JSON, and JSON-LD storage; SPARQL 1.1 with named graphs; RDFS++ and OWL 2 RL reasoning; and Prolog rules and querying. FedShard supports horizontal sharding and federation, while ACID transactions, replication, and warm standby address operational needs. Clients and integrations include REST, Java, Python, Lisp, RDF4J, Jena, JavaScript, SOLR, MongoDB, and OpenAI ChatGPT, with vector storage and LLM integration included. Choose AllegroGraph when advanced semantic graphs, multiple query languages, or distributed operations matter. A smaller project needing only basic graph storage may be better served by a simpler product.
