Alibaba Cloud Storage Gateway connects on-premises or cloud applications to Alibaba Cloud Object Storage Service (OSS) through standard file and block protocols. File gateways expose OSS buckets through NFS and SMB, while block gateways provide iSCSI access. It is intended for organizations extending local storage into cloud storage, backing up files, sharing data across locations, or providing block access without changing applications. Deployment can run on Alibaba Cloud or on customer-managed virtual machines, with Linux, Windows, API, and self-hosted platform support.

Its feature set is broad for a hybrid gateway. Local cache disks keep hot data closer to applications, while cache and write-through modes support different data-access patterns. Asynchronous and reverse synchronization help move data between locations, and automated storage tiering can shift data across storage layers. Transfer acceleration and express synchronization add options for moving data, while server-side encryption, logging, and monitoring address operational and protection requirements. Active Directory integration also fits environments that manage access through existing directory services.

The product fits most naturally into an Alibaba Cloud environment because its listed integrations are OSS, Elastic Compute Service (ECS), and File Storage NAS, and its cloud target is Alibaba Cloud OSS. Billing supports usage-based pay-as-you-go, subscription, and on-premises software-license models, so the appropriate choice depends on deployment and consumption needs. Organizations seeking NFS, SMB, or iSCSI access with caching and synchronization should consider it; teams needing a cloud-neutral gateway or a free plan should look elsewhere.
