Aleph Cloud, formerly Aleph.im, is an open-source, off-chain peer-to-peer network for decentralized file and object storage, key-value storage, computing, virtual machines, IPFS pinning, and blockchain indexing. It is aimed primarily at developers building Web3 applications and decentralized services. Access is available through web, macOS, Linux, and API interfaces, with Python and TypeScript SDKs, REST, and command-line tools supporting development workflows.

According to the published pricing, volume storage starts at $0.0033 and includes block storage, high-availability SSD, and capacity up to 20 TB. VPS options are listed at $0.0036 per hour for 1 vCPU, 2 GB, and 20 GB HD; $0.0066 per hour for 2 vCPU, 4 GB, and 40 GB HD; and $0.0132 per hour for 4 vCPU, 8 GB, and 80 GB HD, with monthly billing. The platform therefore covers both storage and compute, while the volume-storage figure is presented differently from the hourly VPS plans.

Its strongest distinction is the combination of persistent and redundant storage with compute services and blockchain infrastructure. Teams can use IPFS pinning, immutable volumes, serverless functions, persistent and on-demand virtual machines, confidential virtual machines, and blockchain indexing in one platform. Integrations include Ethereum, Tezos, Solana, and IPFS. Aleph Cloud is a strong fit for Web3 teams that need storage alongside application infrastructure and developer access. Teams seeking only straightforward centralized file storage, or a less developer-oriented product, should look elsewhere.

Aleph Cloud (formerly Aleph.im) pros and cons

  • Where it wins
    • Combines storage, VMs, serverless functions, and blockchain indexing
    • Supports IPFS pinning, immutable volumes, and redundant storage
    • Offers Python, TypeScript, REST API, and CLI access
  • Where it doesn't
    • Volume storage pricing does not use the hourly format shown for VPS plans
    • Its developer-oriented platform may exceed basic storage needs
    • Decentralized infrastructure may not fit teams seeking conventional cloud storage
