Our verdict on Akamai DNS Manager
Akamai DNS Manager is a cloud-based managed DNS service for enterprise teams managing domains through Akamai Cloud Manager, the Linode CLI, or the Linode API. Its core use case is authoritative DNS administration with high record capacity and Anycast delivery. Teams can import zones automatically, clone records, support IPv6 records and lookups, and configure primary or secondary DNS. Serving domains requires at least one active Linode on the account, so the service fits organizations already operating within the Akamai Cloud or Linode environment better than teams seeking a standalone DNS provider.
The published plan is DNS Manager, available at no charge. It includes Anycast DNS across more than 250 locations, primary and secondary DNS support, API and web-based management, incoming and outgoing AXFR zone transfers, and up to 12,000 DNS records per domain. Management access spans the web, Akamai Cloud Manager, the Linode CLI, and the Linode API. Automated zone imports and DNS record cloning also help support migrations or repeated configuration work. Support information includes documentation and 24/7 support, giving larger teams a defined operational reference point.
DNS Manager is strongest when the requirement is straightforward managed DNS with broad Anycast distribution, substantial record capacity, and integration with Linode tooling. Akamai identifies advanced health-check routing and traffic steering as capabilities of Edge DNS and Global Traffic Management instead.
