Is the Epson EcoTank ET-4950 worth $370?
It is worth considering if you regularly print and scan at home or in a small office and want the convenience of an automatic document feeder and automatic two-sided printing. Its refillable ink tanks may also suit people who print enough for cartridge replacement to be a recurring expense. At $369.99, the reported sale price is $130 below the $499.99 launch MSRP, but that difference does not establish a record-low price.
TechRadar reported a 4.5-star review score for the printer in its October 6 deal article. The article quotes senior printer editor Jim: “I can’t find another mid-price printer so loaded with features and ink.” Treat that as his editorial judgment, not a head-to-head test result against every competing printer.
What the ET-4950 offers
The ET-4950 is a wireless color all-in-one that prints, copies, scans, and faxes. Epson lists automatic duplex printing, an automatic document feeder, a 250-sheet paper tray, and a 2.4-inch color display. Those features make it more capable for everyday office tasks than a basic printer designed mainly for occasional single-page jobs.

Print speeds: two different measures
Epson lists ISO print speeds of 18 pages per minute in black and 9 pages per minute in color. TechRadar’s deal article separately reports maximum speeds of up to 35 ppm black and 23 ppm color. These figures use different bases; the maximum figures should not be read as the same kind of measurement as Epson’s ISO rates.
How the ink-tank system affects ownership
Instead of disposable ink cartridges, the ET-4950 uses refillable tanks and Epson EcoFit ink bottles. Epson estimates that the included ink can last up to three years and yield up to 6,600 black pages and 5,500 color pages. These are manufacturer estimates, not guaranteed results for an individual household; actual yield depends on what and how often you print. Epson says its yield figures use the ISO/IEC 24712 test pattern and Epson methodology.

Epson also advertises savings of up to 90% with replacement bottles versus cartridges. That is Epson’s comparison claim, not an independent cost finding; your actual savings depend on print volume, the ink you buy, and the cartridge printer you would otherwise use.
Use compatible ink and check warranty terms
Epson’s ET-4950 guide lists bottle and maintenance-box part numbers and says Epson warranties do not cover damage caused by third-party ink or ink not designed for the printer. Before buying refills, check the exact bottle compatibility and warranty terms for your model and region.

Who should buy it—and who may want another printer?
It makes sense if
- You print and scan regularly, rather than only a few pages a month.
- You want an automatic document feeder for multi-page scanning or copying.
- Automatic two-sided printing and a 250-sheet tray fit your routine.
- You expect to print enough that refillable tanks are more appealing than repeated cartridge purchases.
Check these limitations before buying
- TechRadar flags the lack of USB host, NFC, and Bluetooth. Confirm that the printer’s wireless options work with the devices and setup you use.
- The deal article also notes limitations with heavy-paper scanning and multipurpose-tray printing. If those are central to your work, verify the supported media and handling before purchase.
