What Ports Launcher does
Ports Launcher is a catalog-driven manager for native PC ports and recompilations, rather than a general library for storefront games or a tool for organizing every retro game you own. Its project repository describes browsing catalog entries, installing listed builds, launching installed ports, and checking for updates in one Windows application.
Installation sources can include GitHub or GitLab releases and direct links. The launcher also supports selecting versions and pinning an installed port to a chosen release, so update checks do not necessarily mean you have to move to the latest version. The project says update checks can be disabled.
What it can manage in your library
- Installed ports: View installed entries in a library grid and open per-port setup instructions.
- Updates and versions: Check for updates, choose versions, or pin a port to a selected release.
- Saves: Uninstall a port while preserving save data stored inside that port’s folder. A bulk save-backup option is also documented.
- Usage details: Track playtime and the last-played time.
- Your own entries: Add locally managed ports through a separate catalog file, rather than relying only on the project’s listed catalog.
- Interface options: Choose themes and use keyboard or XInput gamepad navigation, including in dialogs.
These are capabilities described by the project, not independent performance or usability test results. Save preservation is specifically described for data kept within a port’s folder; do not assume saves stored elsewhere will be retained by uninstalling.

Does it include the original game files?
No. Ports Launcher says it does not bundle, download, host, or link to copyrighted game assets. It installs port or recompilation code. Some entries also need original game data, which you must obtain from a copy you legally own and provide yourself. The project says it cannot verify the source of files a user supplies. As a result, a catalog entry may need additional setup before it can run; installing the port is not the same as receiving a complete, ready-to-play copy of the original game.
What you need to run it
The project targets Windows and says the app’s interface requires a working OpenGL driver. It describes the launcher as a native Rust binary and says it bundles a minimal 7-Zip component for archive extraction. The repository identifies the software as free under the GNU GPL v3.0 license.

Keyboard control is available, and XInput gamepad navigation is documented. A controller is optional, not a requirement. For example, Xbox lists its Xbox Wireless Controller as compatible with Windows 10 and Windows 11 PCs; that compatibility information does not establish that this particular controller has been tested with Ports Launcher.

Ports Launcher is most relevant if you use multiple supported native PC ports and want one place to install and track them, or if you maintain your own local port entries and want to add them to a catalog. It is not presented as an all-purpose launcher for storefront libraries, and the documented scope does not establish emulator or ROM management. Check whether the specific port you want is listed and whether it requires game data before expecting to launch it directly.
