Pokémon Mystery Gift lets players claim promotional items or Pokémon through methods that vary by game and offer. Some gifts arrive over the internet, some require a code, and Pokémon HOME also supports local-event and code-pattern options. There is no universal expiration period: check the specific promotion for its distribution dates, redemption deadline, and reuse limits.
How Pokémon Mystery Gift works
Mystery Gift is a delivery feature, not one standardized redemption process. Depending on the game or service, you may claim a gift through an internet connection, enter a code or password, check for a local event, or scan a code pattern. The menu path, eligibility requirements, destination for the gift, and deadline are set by the particular game and offer.
In a game, a gift may be delivered directly to that title—for example, to your party or Pokémon Boxes. In Pokémon HOME, gifts are placed in the Gift Box first. The offer’s terms also determine whether a code can be reused or a gift can be claimed more than once.
How to redeem a Mystery Gift in Pokémon HOME
Pokémon Support’s instructions, updated January 30, 2026, describe three ways to receive gifts in HOME: check for a local event, enter a code, or scan a code pattern. For code entry:

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
- Open the menu in Pokémon HOME and choose Mystery Gift.
- Choose Code and enter the code.
- Open Gift Box to retrieve the gift.
For this HOME code-entry flow, Pokémon Support says codes do not include the letters O, I, or Z. Check the instructions for other games or services rather than assuming the same character rule applies to every code format.
A gift in HOME’s Gift Box is not necessarily the final step. From there, you can claim a gift into your Pokémon HOME Boxes or, where the gift provides a code, use that code through Mystery Gift in a compatible game. Pokémon Support warns that gifts sent to the Gift Box become unavailable after “a certain period of time,” but does not state a fixed duration. Claim or transfer gifts promptly.

Menu labels differ by title and generation. Pokémon Support’s Sword and Shield example uses Mystery Gift, then Get a Mystery Gift, then Get with Code/Password. Its legacy Nintendo 3DS examples include options for local wireless, internet, infrared, and code/password; some describe speaking to a delivery person in a Pokémon Center afterward. Follow the instructions for the exact game and promotion rather than carrying a path over from another generation.

When do Mystery Gift codes and gifts expire?
There is no standard number of days that applies to all Mystery Gifts. An offer may distinguish when it is available or distributed from the last day to redeem its code. Check the official promotion page for both dates and any separate eligibility or purchase window.
| Official example | What its terms say |
|---|---|
| Scarlet and Violet Revavroom password TEAMSTAR | Redemption deadline: October 31, 2024. Expired example; The Pokémon Company International, November 22, 2023. |
| Legends: Z-A Alpha Charizard password B1G0006 | Valid from December 9, 2025 through January 19, 2026. Expired example; The Pokémon Company International, December 9, 2025. |
| Legends: Z-A bundle bonus: 100 Ultra Ball serial codes | The September 30, 2026 announcement says the serial codes have no expiration date, but circumstances such as the end of network service may prevent claiming the gift. This applies to that bundle offer, not to codes generally. |
| Pokémon HOME Gift Box | Gifts become unavailable after “a certain period of time”; Pokémon Support’s instructions, updated January 30, 2026, do not give a fixed duration. |
A statement that a particular serial code has no expiration date is not a promise that every code will remain claimable indefinitely. Network service can affect access, and claim limits may still apply.

What to check before trying a code
- Open the official page for the specific promotion and confirm that the offer is still available.
- Check the distribution period and the code’s redemption deadline separately if both are listed.
- Confirm the required game, service, region, platform, and any purchase or eligibility conditions stated by the offer.
- Look for per-save or per-account limits and whether the code can be used only once.
- Check whether the gift goes straight to a game or first to Pokémon HOME’s Gift Box.
- If the offer has no stated deadline, do not assume that network access or the opportunity to claim it will last forever.
Does a Mystery Gift require game progress?
Some promotions require the Mystery Gift feature to be unlocked before you can enter a code. For the specific Legends: Z-A bundle offer announced September 30, 2026, the instructions say the feature becomes available after approximately one hour of play. That timing is specific to that game and offer; it is not a general Mystery Gift requirement.
