To make space in your Pokémon GO Item Bag without losing useful stock, use surplus items for their normal purposes first, then discard only what you genuinely do not need. Open the Main Menu, tap Items, and check the count against the maximum shown at the top. If you want more room without reducing your inventory, buy an Item Bag upgrade in the Shop; each upgrade adds 50 capacity, according to the Pokémon GO Help Center.
Why does a full Item Bag matter?
When your inventory reaches or exceeds its limit, Pokémon GO will not let you collect new items from PokéStops, Gyms, or battle rewards. That makes a full bag more than a housekeeping issue: it can prevent you from picking up items during play.
The Help Center says the default Item Bag capacity is 350 items. Gifts and Stickers do not count toward that maximum, so clearing those will not create room in the counted inventory.
How can I make room without deleting useful items?
Start by looking for items you can use in ordinary play. Using an item for its intended purpose consumes it, but gives you its gameplay benefit; discarding it creates room without any such benefit.

- Check the count. Read the current item count and maximum displayed at the top of the Item Bag.
- Use items when their normal situation comes up. For example, use healing items after battles, eligible Poké Balls and Berries while catching Pokémon, and situational items when you are doing the activity they support.
- Keep a reserve for plans you already have. Consider what you routinely need for raids, Rocket battles, catching, evolution, or other planned play before using or removing stock.
- Discard only clear excess. If you still need room, remove items you have decided you do not need, rather than treating an item as expendable just because it has not been used recently.
- Expand capacity if you prefer to keep your stock. Open the Shop and purchase an Item Bag upgrade; each upgrade adds 50 spaces.
The Help Center confirms that players can free inventory space by using or discarding items, but it does not set a universal safe quantity for any item category. Your useful reserve depends on the activities you expect to do, so there is no evidence-based blanket rule such as “always delete this many Potions.”

Using items you were going to need anyway is usually the most useful first step. Discarding is a reasonable fallback for unwanted excess. An upgrade makes sense if you repeatedly hit the cap and would rather retain a larger reserve than spend time clearing space.
What should I avoid clearing out?
Avoid deleting an item solely because it is not useful at that moment. An item you rely on for a planned raid, Rocket battle, catch, or evolution may be more valuable later than the space you gain now.

There is no official universal discard list or quantity threshold for Potions, Revives, Poké Balls, Berries, evolution items, raid-related items, or other categories. Decide what is excess in relation to your own planned play instead of following a fixed count that may not fit your needs.
Does anything not count toward the Item Bag limit?
Yes. The Pokémon GO Help Center specifically says that Gifts and Stickers do not count toward the maximum number of items you can carry. If you are at the cap, removing or managing those will not solve the space problem; focus on counted items instead.

Will Pokémon GO automatically delete items when the bag is full?
