PointOne was the developer behind the 2018 announcement of a new business focused on building large data centers for hyperscale cloud platforms. That announcement described initial projects in Remington, Virginia, and Alberta, Canada. PointOne now presents a broader Mid-Atlantic campus-development business, while Remington remains a proposed project in the company’s current public updates—not an operating campus.

What PointOne announced in 2018

On May 2, 2018, Data Center Knowledge reported that PointOne Developments had formed PointOne Development Corp. to develop data centers for hyperscale cloud platforms. The article named Facebook, Amazon Web Services, and Microsoft Azure as examples of the intended customer market.

The report said the venture could access up to $7.5 billion in capital and was beginning with two projects, one in the United States and one in Canada. These were figures and claims reported at the time, not confirmation of capital deployed or capacity subsequently delivered.

The two initial sites

Site What the 2018 report described How to read the figure
Remington, Virginia Access to 300 MW of utility power; about 50 miles south of Ashburn, Virginia Historical power-access figure reported in 2018; not current operating capacity
Acheson, Alberta, Canada Access to 240 MW of power; near long-haul fiber routes Historical power-access figure reported in 2018; not current operating capacity

The article also relayed PointOne’s claim that modular mechanical and electrical systems could reduce construction time to less than 180 days. That was the company’s claim about its proposed approach, not an independently verified result or a general construction guarantee.

Organizations named in the report

The 2018 story identified infrastructure specialist Black & Veatch, consulting firm Critical Project Services, developer Diode Ventures, and investment and asset-management firm Enfinite Capital as supporting organizations. It specifically said Black & Veatch would perform site-feasibility and design-build work for Remington. The historical report does not establish whether those relationships continue today.

PointOne was also reported to be considering additional sites in the United States, Australia, Ireland, and the UAE. Current company pages do not verify that those markets remain active plans.

What PointOne says it does now

PointOne’s current company site describes a business developing scaled campuses for hyperscale, cloud, and NeoCloud providers. Its listed facility formats include full campuses, single-tenant data centers, and powered-shell facilities. The company says it is established in Virginia’s core data-center markets and expanding across the Mid-Atlantic.

Its location page describes the Remington campus in Fauquier County as 234 acres, designed for up to 304 MW of critical IT, with future-ready expansion capability to 600 MW of utility IT. Those are current company-published planning figures. Critical IT and utility IT are different categories, so the 304 MW and 600 MW figures should not be treated as interchangeable or compared directly with the 2018 report’s utility-power access figure.

Remington’s current status and power plan

PointOne’s June 16, 2026 announcement said it intended to use behind-the-meter fuel-cell technology to generate power at the proposed Remington Technology Park campus. The company said it selected fuel cells after evaluating technical, operational, environmental, and stakeholder considerations. Its release attributes this statement to Colin Clish, co-founder and president: “After thorough evaluation, we determined that fuel cells represent the best power generation solution for Remington Technology Park.” This is PointOne’s explanation, not an independent technical finding.

On July 9, 2026, PointOne announced that the Fauquier County Board of Supervisors had approved a rezoning amendment for the planned on-site natural-gas fuel-cell equipment yard. The company described the project as continuing through development and construction. Its announcement and location page do not establish that the campus is operating.

How to interpret the original market-entry story

  • Developer: The 2018 market-entry report concerned PointOne Development Corp.
  • Intended market: The announced strategy targeted large cloud-platform customers, with Facebook, AWS, and Microsoft Azure cited as examples.
  • Historical claims: The $7.5 billion capital figure, site power-access figures, and sub-180-day construction claim belong to the 2018 report and should not be read as current delivered capacity or verified results.
  • Current project picture: PointOne now describes planned Mid-Atlantic campuses and a proposed Remington project with a fuel-cell power strategy; public company updates do not show that Remington is already operational.
