Only the Verta Color has a color screen, an E Ink Kaleido 3 touchscreen. The standard Verta is grayscale. Both carry an IPX4 rating, which covers splashes and not immersion. PocketBook announced them on October 5, 2026, and plans to sell them from November 2026 at €169 (Verta) and €179 (Verta Color) in Germany.
Verta vs. Verta Color: what differs
The two models share a body, weight and water rating. The display is the real difference. The figures below come from PocketBook Germany’s product pages for each model.

What the color screen does and doesn’t give you
The Kaleido 3 panel can show 4,096 colors, which suits book covers, illustrations, charts and comics. Color mode has half the pixel density of grayscale mode: 150 PPI against 300 PPI. Color content will therefore look softer than black text on the grayscale panel. PocketBook’s page lists 300 PPI for grayscale on the Color model as well. These are manufacturer specifications. No independent measurements or hands-on image-quality tests of the Verta Color have been published in the sources reviewed.
If you read mostly text novels, the €10 saving and the standard Verta’s single-density grayscale screen may suit you better. If you read graphic novels, magazines or illustrated nonfiction, the color version is the one to consider.

IPX4 means splash-resistant, not waterproof
PocketBook describes IPX4 as protection against splashes. The rating doesn’t cover submersion, so don’t read with the device in a bath or pool, and don’t treat it as a beach-and-pool reader. If you need a reader sold for immersion, look at models carrying a separate, higher rating.
Size, hardware and battery
PocketBook lists 140 g for both models. Notebookcheck, reporting on October 5, 2026, gives dimensions of 154 × 107.5 × 7 mm. The same report lists these specs:

Both PocketBook and Notebookcheck cite up to two months of battery life. That is a manufacturer estimate that depends on usage. Backlight, Bluetooth audio and color content typically drain a reader faster, and no independent battery test exists yet.

These are announced capabilities, not tested ones. PocketBook says the devices are aimed mainly at newcomers to e-readers. Its German wording is “Die kompakten 6-Zoll-E-Reader richten sich insbesondere an Einsteiger:innen.”

PocketBook’s announcement says: “Beide Modelle sind ab November 2026 zu einem Preis von 169 Euro (Verta) und 179 Euro (Verta Color) erhältlich.” In English, both models will be available from November 2026 at €169 and €179. The company said it would first show them at the Frankfurt Book Fair. As of this writing, PocketBook Germany’s shop pages list the same prices but mark both models “Nicht auf Lager” (not in stock) and “NEU – bald erhältlich” (new, available soon). Retail availability hasn’t begun, and prices and launch timing outside Germany may differ.

Who should wait for the Verta Color
- Good fit: readers who want a small, light device for one-handed reading, occasional color material, library borrowing and audio output.
- Think twice: anyone expecting tablet-like color sharpness, or anyone who wants real waterproofing.
- Check first: local pricing, launch date, and whether Libby or Onleihe works with your library.
