1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsThe Plugable UD-MSTH3 can connect three displays without requiring Thunderbolt, but it will not work with just any laptop. Plugable says the host needs a video-capable USB-C, USB4, or Thunderbolt connection, and its graphics hardware must support the display count and modes you want. For newer compatible Windows systems, the stated triple-display target is one 4K display at 60Hz plus two 1080p displays at 60Hz—not three 4K 60Hz screens.
What the UD-MSTH3 offers
Plugable describes the UD-MSTH3 as a 15-port docking station built around three HDMI 2.0 outputs, host charging, and a broad selection of peripheral connections. It is designed for Windows and ChromeOS, and uses driver-free Multi-Stream Transport (MST) for its displays. Plugable announced it on August 4, 2026. Plugable’s announcement and product specifications describe its capabilities.
Thunderbolt is one supported connection type, not a requirement for every setup. A compatible USB-C port that carries video can also work. The USB-C connector’s shape alone is not enough: the port must support video output, and the laptop’s graphics system must support the requested number of external displays and resolutions.
Will it work with your laptop?
Plugable says most Windows 10/11 and ChromeOS systems with full-featured USB-C, USB4, or Thunderbolt ports should be compatible. That is a general compatibility statement, not a guarantee for every computer in those categories. Before buying, check the laptop maker’s specifications for USB-C video output and the graphics system’s supported display count. Plugable’s MST compatibility guidance explains why host-specific limits matter.

Plugable says the host graphics controller must support DisplayPort 1.4 with Display Stream Compression (DSC) for the higher-capability configurations. DSC is an optional DisplayPort feature, so support cannot be assumed from a port’s USB-C label or processor family alone. The laptop’s total display limit also applies and may count its built-in panel; some systems may require closing the lid to reach their external-display limit.
Display modes: what to expect
The following are Plugable’s compatibility claims for the listed processor groups, not independent test results or a guarantee for every laptop model. Actual support can vary with the computer’s graphics implementation and total display limit.

| Host category in Plugable’s specifications | Stated maximum display configurations |
|---|---|
| Intel 12th generation or newer, or AMD Ryzen 6000 or newer, with the required compatible graphics capability | One display up to 4K at 60Hz; two displays up to 4K at 60Hz each; or three displays at one 4K 60Hz plus two 1080p 60Hz |
| Intel 11th generation or older, or AMD Ryzen 5000 | One display up to 4K at 30Hz, or two displays at 1080p 60Hz; three displays are unsupported in Plugable’s compatibility table |
| Windows on ARM, Snapdragon X-series, or ARM Chromebook | Up to two external displays; Plugable does not list a three-display mode for these systems |
Do not interpret three HDMI sockets as a promise of three 4K 60Hz extended desktops. Plugable says the available DisplayPort 1.4 with DSC bandwidth is insufficient for three 4K 60Hz displays in the described setup, and warns that attempting three 4K displays may lead to reduced refresh rates or unexpected modes. Its recommended triple-display arrangements are one 4K screen plus two 1080p screens, or three 1080p screens.
Ports, data, and charging
Plugable lists these connections on the UD-MSTH3:
- Three HDMI 2.0 video outputs.
- Six USB ports: two 10Gbps USB-C, one 10Gbps USB-A, two 5Gbps USB-A, and one USB 2.0 port.
- 2.5Gbps Ethernet.
- SD and microSD card readers.
- A 3.5mm audio connection.
The dock provides up to 100W of host charging, according to Plugable. Its front USB-C charge-only port is rated for up to 30W, but does not transfer data. Power is shared between host charging and that accessory port, so the two maximum ratings should not be treated as independently available at their full values at the same time. The manufacturer says the dock can be positioned horizontally or vertically.

Mac and operating-system caveats
Plugable supports Windows 10/11 and ChromeOS for this dock and does not recommend it for extended-display use with macOS. macOS does not implement MST for separate extended desktops through this kind of dock, so multiple connected displays may mirror instead of showing independent desktops. Mac users should choose a docking solution specified for their particular Mac and display setup rather than assume that three HDMI outputs will produce three extended screens.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. Is the UD-MSTH3 a good fit?
It is a plausible option if you use a compatible Windows or ChromeOS laptop, want a one-cable workstation connection, and have confirmed that the host can drive your intended displays. The key check is not just whether the laptop has USB-C: verify video output, graphics and display limits, and the exact resolution-and-refresh combination you plan to use.

For comparisons with other docks, assess operating-system support, display method (MST, DisplayLink, or another approach), independent-display count, resolution and refresh rate at that count, host charging, USB port speeds, and Ethernet speed. Match those details to the competing model’s own specifications rather than comparing port counts alone.
