Yes—the Plugable TBT-6950PD can support up to four displays in suitable computer setups, but the dock alone does not guarantee four screens on every laptop. Two HDMI outputs rely on DisplayLink software, while the number of displays supported through the dock’s Thunderbolt ports depends on the host computer. Plugable’s official product listing identifies the dock as TBT-6950PD; it does not identify “PS3-METERC3” as a model or feature.
How the TBT-6950PD connects four displays
Plugable describes the TBT-6950PD as a hybrid Thunderbolt 4 and DisplayLink dock. Its advertised four-display arrangement is up to two displays connected through HDMI and up to two through downstream Thunderbolt. The HDMI connections use DisplayLink and require DisplayLink software on Windows or macOS; Thunderbolt-connected displays use the computer’s native display support. Plugable’s product listing describes the arrangement and supported host platforms.
That distinction matters: the dock’s “up to four” claim is conditional, not a promise that any compatible laptop can drive four external screens. Check the computer maker’s specifications for the maximum number of external displays supported by your exact computer, including its processor and configuration. Also confirm that the operating system is supported and that you can install DisplayLink software for the HDMI screens.
Resolution and refresh-rate limits
Plugable’s support article specifies a maximum of 3840 × 2160 at 60Hz for the dock’s HDMI outputs. It does not establish that all four displays can run at that resolution and refresh rate simultaneously on every host. For displays attached through downstream Thunderbolt ports, maximum resolution and refresh rate vary with the host, the adapter used, and how many displays are connected. Plugable’s display-resolution guidance explains those qualifications.

- Why Choose This Dock: The MacWorld Editors' Choice winning Plugable Quad Display Dock is a productivity powerhouse with up to 4 displays on PC and Mac, 100W (96W certified) host charging, 4x 40Gbps Thunderbolt ports, and high-speed USB ports, HDMI, Gigabit Ethernet, and an SD Card slot.
- Quad Display: Featuring the power of Thunderbolt and the flexibility of DisplayLink technology, connect up to 4 displays (2x HDMI, 2x Thunderbolt). All four displays up to 4K or a single 8K display (Thunderbolt/USB-C display output capabilities determined by the host system).
- DisplayLink Setup: The two HDMI outputs use DisplayLink technology and require the DisplayLink software application. Installation is typically automatic on Windows; macOS requires a one-time manual installation. Thunderbolt connected displays use native video and do not require DisplayLink.
- Thunderbolt 4 Dock: This Plugable docking station features 1x 40Gbps Thunderbolt port that connects the dock to your computer and offers up to 96W laptop charging, and 3x 40Gbps Thunderbolt ports for data, video, and 15W charging for your connected Thunderbolt, USB4, and USB-C devices.
- Works With: This certified Thunderbolt dock works with Windows 10 and newer, macOS 14+, and ChromeOS 100+ computers with a Thunderbolt, USB4, or full-featured USB-C port. Most Thunderbolt 4 Windows, and Mac computers will support up to 4x extended displays (Base model M3 Macs need to be in “clamshell mode” for 4x displays). ChromeOS and base model M1, M2 Macs will support 3x extended displays.
Before buying, compare the dock’s HDMI limit with the specifications of the displays you plan to use, then check the computer and any Thunderbolt-to-display adapter for the supported combination. Do not infer four 4K/60Hz screens from the dock’s four-display headline.
Ports, data, and laptop charging
Beyond video, Plugable lists three downstream Thunderbolt 4 ports, each offering up to 40Gbps, plus two front USB-A ports rated up to 10Gbps, Gigabit Ethernet, and a full-size SD card reader. The dock provides up to 96W of certified host charging, according to the product listing. The listing also uses rounded “100W” class language; 96W is the stated detailed specification, not 100W of certified output.

Compatibility checks before connecting
- Host connection: Plugable lists Thunderbolt 4 or USB4 hosts, with Windows 10 or later or macOS 11 or later.
- External-display capacity: Verify how many native external displays your specific computer supports. This determines the Thunderbolt-connected display side of the setup.
- DisplayLink installation: Install the required DisplayLink software for the two HDMI outputs, subject to your organization’s software policies if this is a managed computer.
- Video chain: Check the display inputs and any adapters or cables used on the Thunderbolt ports; Plugable says their capabilities affect resolution and refresh rate.
What “PS3-METERC3” means here
The official Plugable product listing names the dock TBT-6950PD. The available product information does not explain or corroborate “PS3-METERC3,” so it should not be treated as a second model number, a charging feature, or a display mode. Plugable’s product blog, dated October 1, 2024, describes the two-Thunderbolt-plus-two-HDMI concept, but Plugable’s press page surfaces conflicting dates for a matching announcement. Those materials do not establish a definitive launch date.
