PlayStation Plus Extra includes the Game Catalog; Premium includes that catalog plus the Classics Catalog and select game trials. Both tiers also include monthly games and core PlayStation Plus benefits. Premium is worth considering if you want a specific classic, will use trials or cloud streaming, or can access its Sony Pictures Catalog in your region. Before subscribing for one game, check that it is currently available in your local catalog and whether it can be downloaded or streamed.
What Extra and Premium include
The key library difference is the Classics Catalog: it is included with Premium, not Extra. Both tiers include the Game Catalog, but its lineup changes over time and availability can vary by tier and region. Premium adds limited-time trials for select games, plus cloud streaming and the Sony Pictures Catalog in the US plan comparison. Those benefits may differ by territory, and not every game can be streamed.
| Benefit | Extra | Premium |
|---|---|---|
| Game Catalog | Yes | Yes |
| Ubisoft+ Classics | Yes | Yes |
| Classics Catalog | No | Yes |
| Game Trials | No | Yes |
| Cloud streaming | No | Yes |
| Sony Pictures Catalog | No | Yes |
| Monthly games, online multiplayer, exclusive discounts, exclusive content, cloud storage, Share Play | Yes | Yes |
This comparison reflects PlayStation’s US plan pages; offerings and eligibility can vary elsewhere. See PlayStation Plus plans and the PlayStation Plus games FAQ for current regional details.
How to decide which tier has the games you want
Choose Extra for current Game Catalog titles
If the games you want are in the Game Catalog and you do not expect to use Premium’s classics, trials, or streaming, Extra covers the relevant library benefit. Confirm each title in the catalog for your country before paying; games can leave the service, and availability is not permanent.

- Includes DualSense Wireless Controller, 1TB SSD, 2 Horizontal Stand Feet, HDMI Cable, AC power cord, USB cable, printed materials, ASTRO’s PLAYROOM (Pre-installed game)

Choose Premium for a specific classic or other Premium feature
Premium is the relevant tier if a game you want is in the Classics Catalog, or if you plan to use eligible game trials or cloud streaming. The US plan comparison also lists the Sony Pictures Catalog for Premium; check local availability and the actual movie lineup before counting that as a benefit you will use.
Check the title’s delivery method
A catalog listing does not guarantee that every play option is available on every device. PS5 games can only be downloaded to a PS5. PlayStation says Premium cloud streaming is available on PS4, PS5, and PC, but individual titles may not be streamable and territory or age restrictions can apply. Check the games FAQ for title and device details.

Streaming requirements and device limits
PlayStation states that cloud streaming needs a connection of at least 5 Mbps, or 15 Mbps for 1080p. These are Sony’s stated minimums; a faster or more stable connection may be needed for a smooth experience. Check the cloud streaming support page for current requirements and eligibility.
- PS5: PS5 games can only be downloaded to a PS5; streaming availability depends on the title and service eligibility.
- PS4 and PC: Premium streaming is listed for these platforms in PlayStation’s games FAQ, subject to title, age, and regional restrictions.
- Before choosing Premium for streaming: Verify the exact game can be streamed on your device and that streaming is available in your country.

PlayStation warns that catalog availability varies over time and by tier. Its US plan page says, “From January 2026, PS4 games will be added only intermittently.” That is a statement about additions, not a promise that existing PS4 catalog games will remain available. Check the live catalog close to purchase, especially if one title is the deciding factor.
