Pixel Watch 5 is the better fit if you want its newly announced strength coaching, GPS route tracking, and Health Guardian features—and those features are available where you live. Pixel Watch 4 remains a sensible buy when it costs less and you are happy with its existing feature set. For current Watch 4 owners, the upgrade case depends on whether you will actually use the new tools, not simply on the newer model number.
What are the actual differences?
Google announced Pixel Watch 5 on August 12, 2026. The main differences it highlighted are proactive Gemini Intelligence, personalized strength coaching, GPS route tracking, and Health Guardian features. Pixel Watch 4, announced August 20, 2025, already offered Gemini access through Raise to Talk and standalone satellite emergency communication on LTE versions, so those are not wholly new to the fifth generation.

Is Pixel Watch 5 worth upgrading to?
Choose Watch 5 if you will use its new features
- You want personalized strength coaching or the announced GPS route-tracking improvements.
- You are interested in the new Health Guardian features and have confirmed they are available to you.
- You want the newer announced Gemini experience rather than the Raise to Talk access already offered on Watch 4.
Keep Watch 4 or buy it at a discount if you do not
If Watch 4 meets your needs and its current price is lower, it remains a reasonable alternative. Its launch already included Raise to Talk, and LTE models were announced with standalone satellite emergency communication. Compare the live price difference for the sizes and connectivity options you would actually buy; the historic launch prices below are not current sale prices.

For Watch 4 owners, weigh use against the price gap
Upgrade when the specific Watch 5 coaching, GPS, or Health Guardian additions matter enough to justify the cost. If you would rarely use them, moving up a generation alone is not a strong reason to replace a working watch.
What do the prices and battery claims tell you?
The figures below come from different sources and dates. Watch 4 prices are Google’s historical US launch prices from 2025; Watch 5 prices and battery estimates are secondary reporting by Android Central in August 2026. They are useful reference points, not a live price check or a like-for-like confirmation of every model’s current specification.

Do not assume an LTE watch’s listed price includes cellular service. LTE can be useful when you want connectivity away from your phone, but carrier compatibility, location, and the separate service plan affect whether it is practical. Compare Wi-Fi/Bluetooth and LTE versions on those terms, not just by their upfront price.

- Pick the case size first. Both Watch 5 sizes are 41 mm and 45 mm. Choose based on wrist comfort and whether you prefer a smaller fit or a larger display.
- Decide whether LTE solves a real need. If you want cellular connectivity away from your phone, verify that your carrier and location support the watch. Factor in the service plan separately.
- Confirm regional feature support. Check that the GPS, safety, Gemini, and Health Guardian capabilities you care about work in your country and are available to your account or language.
Will your Watch 4 bands fit Watch 5?
Some band categories are listed as compatible across both generations, but compatibility depends on band type and watch size. Google lists Active Sport and woven bands for Watch 4 and Watch 5 in both 41 mm and 45 mm. Other listed categories—including stretch, metal, and leather—can have narrower compatibility, so confirm the precise band and case-size listing before ordering.
