Samsung Galaxy generally offers more control over interface customization and automation than Google Pixel, thanks to One UI, optional Good Lock modules, and Modes and Routines. Pixel still provides practical built-in controls, including editable Quick Settings and a broad set of display options. Here, “control” means personalizing the interface and automating phone behavior—not every Android system setting or third-party app. Features vary by device, software version, carrier, and region.
Where Samsung Galaxy has the edge
Good Lock adds optional customization layers
Samsung’s Good Lock modules can extend customization beyond One UI’s standard settings. Samsung describes modules for areas such as the Quick panel, lock screen and always-on display, and navigation. Depending on the supported device and software, these modules can offer additional ways to adjust panel appearance, status icons, lock-screen layout, and navigation. Samsung’s Good Lock support page notes that module availability varies by model and software version, so these options are not guaranteed on every Galaxy phone.
Modes and Routines automate actions
Samsung’s Routines feature lets users choose conditions and actions so the phone can respond automatically to specified situations. Samsung’s UK support documentation describes it this way: “Galaxy Routines lets you automate your phone’s behaviour by running preset actions when specific conditions are met.” See How to use Routines on your Samsung Galaxy device (updated March 16, 2026). This documented workflow is a clear advantage for people who want to configure phone behavior around conditions they select.
What Pixel lets you control
Edit Quick Settings tiles
Pixel users can add, remove, reorder, and resize Quick Settings tiles. Long-pressing a tile can open its advanced settings. Google notes that some of the documented steps apply only to Android 11 and later. The exact tiles available depend on the device and software. Adjust display and appearance
Google documents everyday display controls for Pixel phones, including brightness, font and display size, screen rotation, themes, and Night Light, as well as options that depend on the model. Google’s display settings guidance covers these controls. They make Pixel’s built-in settings useful for tailoring readability and screen behavior, even though Samsung’s documented customization ecosystem extends further into interface modules and automation.

Which phone is a better fit?
- Choose Galaxy if you want a wider documented set of interface customization options and condition-based automation, and are comfortable checking which Good Lock modules your particular device supports.
- Choose Pixel if the documented built-in controls for Quick Settings and display are enough for your needs, or you prefer not to add another optional customization layer. That is a preference, not evidence that Pixel cannot be customized.
Check compatibility before relying on a feature
Samsung’s One UI information cited here is from a Canada support page, its Good Lock information is from Samsung India, and its Routines guidance is from Samsung UK. Feature availability and labels may differ by market. Pixel controls can also vary by model, and some Quick Settings instructions are specific to Android 11 and later. Check the support page for your region and the settings on your exact phone before buying or setting up a device around a particular option.
