That is an anecdotal clue—not a confirmed diagnosis or a safe repair method. Google separately acknowledges that a limited number of Pixel 8 phones may develop a full-height vertical display line or flickering and offers a repair program for devices that meet its eligibility rules.
If your screen is affected, document what it is doing, check your device’s eligibility with Google, and confirm repair options before paying for a replacement or attempting self-repair.
What the squeeze workaround does—and does not—tell you
In an April 8, 2024 report, PiunikaWeb described Pixel 8 owners saying that pressure on the lower half of the phone temporarily improved a green display. Those accounts are user reports, not a controlled test or a repair diagnosis. They do not establish the cause, identify a faulty component, or show that pressing the phone is safe or durable. Treat the reported response as an observation, not a procedure to try. PiunikaWeb’s report
Google’s repair notice covers a specific set of symptoms: a vertical line running from the bottom to the top of the display, or display flickering. It does not say that every green tint or green screen is the same defect, and squeezing the phone does not establish eligibility. The PiunikaWeb report also describes green-tint complaints after the Android 14 update and a March 2024 update that was said to promise a wider fix. That chronology does not prove that an update caused or fixed an individual phone’s display problem. Check whether Google’s Pixel 8 repair program applies
Google’s Extended Repair Program covers a limited number of Pixel 8 devices for three years after the date of original retail purchase. A phone must show a qualifying full-height vertical line or display flicker, and Google or an authorized repair partner must determine that its IMEI or serial number qualifies. Coverage is not automatic just because a symptom looks similar. A cracked display or cover glass, liquid intrusion, or other damage may make a device ineligible. If it does not qualify, or has damage outside the program, a repair fee may apply. A repair performed under this program is warranted for 90 days, and the program does not extend the phone’s standard warranty. Google’s program terms
- Record the symptom without pressing or flexing the phone. Note whether you see a full-height vertical line, flicker, green tint, or another behavior.
- Find the IMEI or serial number and use Google’s Pixel 8 Extended Repair Program page to check eligibility.
- If the phone appears eligible, confirm the inspection and local service arrangements with Google, an authorized repair partner, or the point of purchase before committing to a paid repair.
Choose a repair route and prepare the phone
Google describes walk-in, mail-in, and self-repair options, but availability varies by location. The practical choice depends first on program eligibility and any damage, then on which service route is available and convenient. Google identifies iFixit as its partner for genuine Pixel repair parts and recommends self-repair only for people with relevant technical expertise. Google’s Pixel repair options

The available reports do not provide a measured failure rate, a controlled test of the squeeze workaround, or a confirmed root cause that applies to every green-screen symptom. Google’s phrase “limited number” is not a numeric prevalence estimate. A green display alone therefore cannot confirm that a phone has the issue covered by the program; Google’s symptom and device-identifier checks determine whether the repair path applies.
