Phoronix Test Suite (PTS) is free, open-source software for setting up, running, and collecting results from automated tests. It is a framework, not a single benchmark: you choose a test profile or suite, and PTS coordinates the required downloads, installation, execution, and result aggregation. For one-off comparisons, its command-line workflow may be enough; recurring runs across multiple systems are the job Phoromatic is designed to support.
What Phoronix Test Suite does
PTS provides the machinery around a test rather than defining one universal workload or score. A test profile specifies the workload and can have its own dependencies. PTS can help manage setup and execution, then collect the output and supporting information so results can be inspected and compared. The project describes the suite as covering areas such as CPU, graphics, memory, storage, and motherboard testing. Its catalog changes over time.

The project’s Features page reported more than 450 test profiles and over 100 test suites when accessed on October 4, 2026. Those are project-published catalog counts, not an independent audit. See the Phoronix Test Suite Features page for its current description.
How a benchmark run works
- Choose a profile or suite. Select a workload that matches the question you want to answer; PTS does not make unlike workloads comparable simply because both produce scores.
- Meet that workload’s prerequisites. The profile may require compilers, libraries, or other software in addition to PTS itself.
- Let PTS set up and run the test. Depending on the profile, it coordinates downloads, installation, execution, and result aggregation.
- Review the result with its context. PTS can record system information and system, test, and installation logs, and present results in a web-based viewer for comparison.
The Features page gives phoronix-test-suite benchmark unigine-valley as an example command. It is a project example, not a guarantee that this profile or its dependencies are currently available on every system. Check the current download page and documentation for installation and profile-specific instructions.

- Accurate adaptation: Benchmarking with the original car specifications, dimensions, interfaces, and coil parameters, perfect compatibility, and can directly replace old products.
- Precise oil pressure control: Accurately adjust the hydraulic pressure of the gearbox, eliminate gear shifting jerks, impacts, and vibrations, and achieve smooth upshifting and downshifting.
- Durable: Our products have excellent quality, and in order to ensure reliable performance, each product undergoes oil pressure testing to reduce rework during loading. They are suitable for both repair shops and DIY repairs.
- Appropriate maintenance plan: Replace the solenoid valve separately, without the need to replace the valve body and gearbox assembly as a whole, significantly reducing maintenance costs.

Requirements and supported platforms
The project overview lists Linux, Windows, macOS, GNU Hurd, Solaris, and BSD as supported platforms. The download page specifies PHP CLI as the only mandatory PTS runtime requirement for Linux, Solaris, BSD, Hurd, and macOS; it says a web server is not required. That stated prerequisite should not be assumed to apply identically to Windows.
These modest base requirements do not mean every test is lightweight or self-contained. A selected profile can need development tools and libraries, and package managers may install additional dependencies on many distributions. The project recommends Git snapshots for leading-edge software and hardware support; that is the project’s recommendation, not a compatibility guarantee. Consult the official download information and the relevant profile documentation before planning a run.
Choosing between PTS and Phoromatic
Use PTS directly when you need to run selected workloads on one machine or manage a small number of deliberate comparisons. For scheduled or coordinated testing across machines, Phoromatic adds remote orchestration and centralized result access.
| Workflow | What it provides | Best fit |
|---|---|---|
| Phoronix Test Suite | Command-line test setup, execution, and result collection | One-off runs, local comparisons, or custom test workflows |
| Phoromatic | Timed, manual, or externally triggered runs; system grouping and remote management; centralized results through a web interface | Recurring testing across multiple systems, such as a lab or performance-management workflow |
Phoromatic’s project page also describes an on-premises server and caching of required files and OpenBenchmarking.org profiles for restricted networks. Review the current Phoromatic documentation to determine whether its deployment model suits your environment. The page describes its integrated server as open source.

A benchmark score is meaningful only in relation to the workload and conditions that produced it. When comparing systems, retain the test profile and version, hardware and software configuration, relevant drivers, and run conditions. Use the logs and system details PTS records to understand what was tested rather than treating the score as context-free.
The Features page says PTS can repeat a test when detected run-to-run standard deviation exceeds a predefined threshold. This can help address variability, but the project pages do not establish a universal repeat count or quantify benchmark accuracy. It also cannot by itself make results comparable when workloads, system states, or test conditions differ.
Results may be viewed and compared locally, exported, or optionally uploaded to OpenBenchmarking.org, which the project presents as supporting public and private result storage and collaboration. Before uploading in an organizational setting, check the destination, visibility, and applicable data-sharing expectations; uploading is not required for every PTS run. The PTS overview describes result handling and the service.
Cost and licensing
The download page identifies PTS as GPLv3 software that is free for personal and professional use. Phoronix Media separately lists commercial support, training, custom engineering, and enterprise add-ons; these are distinct from the base software. See the download page and Phoronix Media for the project’s published information.
