There is not enough published weapon or upgrade data to name a definitive best Pets Survivors build. The official listings establish that runs combine a starting weapon, a pet with its own skills and stats, and upgrades selected as you level up. The practical approach is to compare how a weapon behaves in your current run, what your pet contributes, and whether your upgrade choices support that pairing.

What makes up a Pets Survivors build?

A build develops during a run rather than coming from a weapon choice alone. You start with a weapon, play as a pet, and choose improvements as you gain levels and face enemy waves. The Steam listing says level-ups can offer weapon, special-ability, or pet upgrades; Nintendo’s listing also describes permanent perks bought between stages.

  • Starting weapon: The main weapon you take into a run. Nintendo describes a dozen starting weapons, but its listing does not compare their performance.
  • Playable pet: Nintendo lists 14 playable pets, each with unique skills and stats. The official listings do not provide a complete pet-by-pet reference.
  • Run upgrades: Level-up choices can improve a weapon, special ability, or pet, according to Steam.
  • Permanent perks: Coins can be spent on perks between stages, according to Nintendo. The official listings do not detail perk names, costs, or effects.

Sources: Steam store listing and Nintendo Switch store listing.

Which weapon and pet combination works best?

The available official information does not establish a strongest weapon, pet, or pairing. Steam achievements name weapon challenges for Revolver, Bazooka, Pistol, Gyro, Dirk, and Dagger, but do not explain how those weapons fire or compare their damage, range, or crowd control. The listings likewise do not spell out each pet’s skill or stat profile.

#1 Best Overall
8Bitdo Ultimate 2C Wireless Controller for Windows PC and Android, with 1000 Hz Polling Rate, Hall Effect Joysticks and Triggers, and Remappable L4/R4 Bumpers (Green)
  • Compatible with Windows and Android.
  • 1000Hz Polling Rate (for 2.4G and wired connection)
  • Hall Effect joysticks and Hall triggers. Wear-resistant metal joystick rings.
  • Extra R4/L4 bumpers. Custom button mapping without using software. Turbo function.
  • Refined bumpers and D-pad. Light but tactile.

So treat a pairing as a hypothesis to test, not a proven synergy. Observe what the weapon actually does against the enemies in your run, then consider whether the pet’s skill and stats complement that behavior. A pet or weapon name alone is not enough to predict effectiveness.

What should you upgrade first?

Use the level-up choices to reinforce the approach that is working in your current run. Since the game offers weapon, special-ability, and pet improvements, compare each available choice by how directly it supports your weapon-pet combination. The official listings do not identify particular upgrades as universally strongest, nor do they state upgrade caps or exact effects.

  1. Identify the problem in the run. Notice whether your weapon is struggling to affect enemies, your pet’s contribution seems insufficient, or another part of your current setup needs support.
  2. Check the choices actually offered. Level-ups may present weapon, special-ability, or pet improvements. Their availability and specific effects should be judged in the game, rather than inferred from the store descriptions.
  3. Choose the improvement that addresses that problem. Favor a choice that strengthens the part of your setup you are relying on, rather than assuming a particular upgrade is best in every run.
  4. Reassess after the next wave. Use what happens in play to decide whether to keep reinforcing the approach or adjust your choices.

How to compare builds fairly

If you want to decide which of two builds suits you better, compare them under similar conditions. Keep track of the starting weapon, pet, and meaningful upgrade choices, then note how each performs through the same kind of run. A single favorable run is an observation, not proof that a combination is the strongest overall.

  • Record the game version and the weapon and pet used.
  • Note which weapon, special-ability, and pet upgrades appeared and which you selected.
  • Compare what you observe in combat, such as how well the weapon handles the enemies you encounter.
  • Repeat the comparison before treating a result as a reliable recommendation.

The official listings do not report weapon statistics, pet-by-pet abilities, or measured results from controlled build comparisons, so exact rankings remain unresolved.

Do platform or controls change which build is best?

Steam lists controller support. Nintendo describes handheld, tabletop, and TV play modes for the Switch edition. Those listings establish control and play options, but do not show that platform or control method changes build balance.
