It can matter, but payment capability alone does not show that XRP’s utility is driving its price. The key distinctions are whether a network can process payments, whether people actually use it that way, whether those payments create sustained demand to hold XRP, and what buyers and sellers are pricing in. A reported Nasdaq listing for a company holding XRP would not, by itself, prove that new XRP is being bought.
What was reported about Brandt and the Nasdaq listing?
In an October 2, 2026 report, 24/7 Wall St. attributed the phrase “fool coin” to trader Peter Brandt, saying he used it about XRP in September while arguing that payment functionality does not automatically make a token a sound investment. The report does not provide Brandt’s original post or its full context, so the phrase should be treated as a secondary-source attribution, not as a fully verified quotation or measured assessment of XRP’s value.
The same report said Evernorth’s planned Nasdaq listing under ticker XRPN was scheduled for October 8, 2026, following approval of a merger, and associated the plan with 473 million XRP. Those details were not confirmed against a primary Evernorth or Nasdaq filing in the available sources. The listing was therefore scheduled or expected as reported on October 2—not an independently verified completed event.

Potentially, as one influence among many. The Bitwise XRP ETF’s 2025 Form 10-K, filed with the SEC on March 20, 2026, lists adoption of XRP as a medium of exchange, store of value, or other consumptive asset among factors that may affect its price. It also names market sentiment, trading-platform activity, liquidity, publicly available supply, competing digital assets and payment services, regulation, transaction fees, and settlement speed.

That is a list of possible influences in a fund sponsor’s risk disclosure, not a measurement of how much any one factor moves XRP’s price or whether its effect is positive. The filing does not establish a causal link between payment activity and price appreciation.

Why transaction volume and demand to hold XRP are different
A payment can involve XRP without the payer, merchant, or intermediary keeping a large XRP balance for long. In a route that converts into XRP for settlement and then converts out, the token may be needed briefly to complete the transfer. That creates a possible demand channel, but the volume of payments alone does not reveal how much XRP must be held at once or for how long.

24/7 Wall St. used Ripple’s On-Demand Liquidity example to make this point. The available sources do not provide a measured relationship between payment volume and XRP’s market price, so the mechanism is best understood as a hypothesis rather than a proven valuation model. A stronger investment case would need evidence about real usage and the resulting need for XRP balances—not just evidence that a payment route exists.
What does the filing say about real-world payment use?
The Bitwise XRP ETF filing says: “XRP is only selectively accepted as a means of payment by retail and commercial outlets, and use of XRP by consumers to pay such retail and commercial outlets remains limited.” It also warns that speculators may significantly influence XRP’s price.

This is a fund sponsor’s risk disclosure, not an independent, comprehensive study of payment volumes. It nevertheless draws an important distinction: an asset can have a payment use case while consumer payment adoption remains limited, and its market price can still be influenced substantially by trading and speculation.
Does the reported Nasdaq listing mean new XRP buyers are coming in?
Not necessarily. An equity listing can give stock-market investors a way to obtain exposure to a company whose treasury includes XRP. Buying a share of that company is not the same as buying XRP directly, and a listing does not establish that the company will purchase more tokens.

According to 24/7 Wall St., Evernorth already possessed the reported 473 million XRP. If that account is accurate, listing the company would repackage exposure to an existing treasury rather than automatically create a fresh XRP purchase. Incremental token demand would depend on actual new acquisitions and the company’s financing and treasury policies. Because the reported holding and schedule were not checked against primary company or exchange documents, readers should treat both as secondary-source claims until confirmed by company disclosures.

“Fast and cheap” is not enough to establish that one payment asset is more useful or more valuable than another. A meaningful comparison asks:

- Need to hold the asset: Must a user or intermediary maintain an XRP inventory, or can it be acquired and converted away during settlement? For how long?
- Fees and settlement: What are the transaction costs and settlement times under comparable conditions?
- Liquidity and conversion: Can participants reliably convert in and out of the asset in the markets and regions they need?
- Constraints and competition: What regulatory or operational limits apply, and what other digital assets or payment services compete for the same use?
The Bitwise filing identifies fees, settlement speed, liquidity, regulation, and competition as potentially relevant factors, but it does not provide an apples-to-apples performance study of XRP and alternatives. These questions help assess the payment proposition; they do not, on their own, predict the token’s price.
What the October 2 market snapshot can—and cannot—tell you
24/7 Wall St. reported XRP at $1.52 on October 2, 2026, and described it as about 58% below a reported July 2025 peak of $3.65. The article also said XRP lagged Bitcoin, Ethereum, and Solana over its selected 90-day and one-year comparison periods. These are dated observations from that report; the prices and return windows were not independently reproduced here. They should not be read as live quotes or as proof that payment utility caused the performance.
Relative returns can describe what happened over a chosen period, but they cannot identify why it happened. Any comparison intended to inform a current decision needs a consistent data source and clearly stated start and end dates.
