Persona 4 Revival is the fourth numbered Persona game, placing it after Persona 3 and before Persona 5 in the numbered series. That is not release order: Persona 5 Royal’s listed multi-platform edition arrived in 2022, Persona 3 Reload in 2024, and Persona 4 Revival is scheduled for 2027. The official sources cited here do not say you must play the earlier games first.

Why numbered order is different from release order
Persona 5 Royal was released before Persona 3 Reload and Persona 4 Revival, even though Persona 5 follows Persona 4 in the numbered sequence. The dates below refer to the specific editions or launches identified by the official catalog and announcements; Persona 5 Royal’s 2022 date is for its wider-platform edition, not its original release.

Do you need to play Persona 3 before Persona 4 Revival?
The official catalog and game announcements establish the numbered placement, but do not state that players must finish earlier games first. Treat playing in number order as a preference, not an official requirement. If your main concern is experiencing the numbered series sequentially, begin with Persona 3; if you are choosing based on availability or interest, the cited sources do not impose a required order.

Persona 4 Revival release date and platforms
SEGA’s June 8, 2026 announcement gives February 18, 2027 as the launch date. The official game site separately lists May 20, 2027 for Nintendo Switch 2. Listed platforms are Xbox Game Pass, Xbox Series X|S, Windows, PlayStation 5, Steam, and Nintendo Switch 2. Availability may vary by region and storefront, so check the local store listing for the platform you plan to use.
Physical copies are listed for PS5 and Nintendo Switch 2 only. If you are specifically looking for a Persona 4 Revival PS5 physical edition, the official site lists physical products including a standard edition and limited box; Shop Atlus also lists a PS5 physical preorder bundle. Current stock and regional availability are not established by those listings.

The official site describes a preorder bonus set with music tracks from Persona 3 Reload and Persona 5 Royal. The listed deadline is February 17, 2027, with a separate deadline for the Switch 2 version; check the official site for the applicable platform cutoff and current terms before preordering, since dates may change. SEGA first announced Persona 4 Revival on June 9, 2025, without a release date. Its June 8, 2026 update set the February 18, 2027 date; the official game site lists the later Switch 2 date.
