What Perplexity Labs was
Labs was designed for work that went beyond a single question-and-answer exchange. Perplexity described it as a workspace for completing projects, with examples including building a marketing campaign, analyzing business finances, and planning meals for the week. The company also highlighted structured decisions such as comparing specifications for a major purchase and planning travel.
In its May 29, 2025 launch announcement, Perplexity said, “Perplexity Labs can help you complete a variety of work and personal projects.” The examples suggest a project-oriented feature for gathering information and organizing an output, rather than simply a different answer style in ordinary chat. Perplexity did not define a fixed set of supported project types in that announcement.
How Labs became Create files and apps
Perplexity’s changelog dated February 5, 2026 identifies the feature as “Create files and apps (previously known as Labs).” That means someone looking for Labs in the current web interface should look for the updated label, not assume the feature has disappeared.

Where to find the feature
- Open Perplexity on the web and go to the input bar.
- Select the + menu.
- Choose Create files and apps. The menu also lists Deep Research, Model Council, and Learn step by step.

Who could use Labs at launch
Perplexity said Labs was available to all Pro users when it launched on May 29, 2025.
