Skydance completed its acquisition of Warner Bros. Discovery on October 6, 2026, bringing Warner’s studios, streaming services, news operations, sports properties and networks together with Paramount’s under one company. The deal is closed; how the combined business will affect streaming choices, prices and programming is still taking shape.
What happened in the Paramount-Warner deal?
Skydance Corporation, formerly Paramount Skydance Corporation, completed its acquisition of Warner Bros. Discovery (WBD) on October 6, 2026. WBD survives as a wholly owned Skydance subsidiary, according to the company’s SEC filing. Skydance says the combined company operates under the name Skydance.
WBD shares ceased trading on Nasdaq when the transaction closed. Skydance Class B shares began trading on the New York Stock Exchange under the ticker SKYD. WBD shareholders received $31.01666668 in cash for each WBD share.
Why is the deal described as both $81 billion and nearly $111 billion?
The figures use different definitions of deal value. The Associated Press describes an $81 billion acquisition price excluding debt and a nearly $111 billion total that includes debt. The larger figure is not the cash paid to WBD shareholders.

What does the combined company bring together?
Skydance now controls assets from both businesses across film, television, streaming, news and sports. The combined portfolio includes two major film studios, CBS, HBO, cable networks, CBS News and CNN, as well as CBS Sports and TNT Sports. Its libraries and franchises include Harry Potter, Barbie, Top Gun, Superman, Star Trek and SpongeBob SquarePants.
That breadth puts a large range of programming and distribution under one corporate owner. It does not, by itself, establish which titles will be available on which service, what will be produced, or how the company will manage its networks and brands.

What could change for streaming subscribers?
Skydance says its direct-to-consumer streaming products will be unified into a single service over time. In Associated Press closing-day coverage, the combined service’s name, rollout timing, subscription price and effect on customer choice were not settled. David Ellison had previously said, “Our viewpoint is, HBO should stay HBO.” That expresses his stated view about the HBO brand, not a complete or finalized streaming plan.
- Potential change: Customers may eventually find programming from the companies’ streaming services in a unified product.
- Still unknown in closing-day coverage: The service name, launch schedule, price, packaging and the extent to which separate services or plans remain available.
Until Skydance announces those details, subscribers should not assume a particular price increase, launch date or loss of choice.

What movie and worker commitments came with regulatory approval?
The merger faced a lawsuit from 12 state attorneys general seeking to block it. A federal judge approved a settlement on September 30, 2026, clearing the way for the transaction to close. The Associated Press reported that the settlement sets these commitments:

The AP also reported that failing to meet the film-output terms could trigger Miramax divestiture and payments to industry labor trusts. These are settlement terms, not a guarantee that every planned release will reach theaters or that every production will have a particular budget or scale.

What did the Justice Department conclude?
On June 12, 2026, the U.S. Department of Justice Antitrust Division said its investigation found the proposed merger was not likely to harm competition or American consumers in streaming video on demand, linear television, or theatrical-film studio development, production or distribution. That is the DOJ’s stated assessment based on its investigation. It is distinct from the state attorneys general’s lawsuit and the settlement approved by the federal judge.

Reported scale figures do not all measure the same thing. FactSet, as reported by the Associated Press in 2026, put the companies’ combined revenue at $65.3 billion for the 12 months ended in June, before the deal closed. Skydance described the post-acquisition company as having nearly $70 billion in revenue. The company’s figure is its own description and does not use the same measurement wording as the FactSet figure.

Skydance also set financial goals for the integration. They are targets rather than results already achieved:

Skydance cautioned that expected synergies, integration outcomes, net leverage, free cash flow and other financial goals may not be realized or may take longer than expected. Whether the company can combine operations, reduce debt and meet its targets remains an execution question.
