What kind of game is PAC-MAN WORLD Re-PAC?
Re-PAC updates the 1999 PAC-MAN WORLD as a single-player 3D action-adventure platformer. In the story, Pac-Man returns home on his birthday to find that the Ghosts have kidnapped his family and friends. He crosses Ghost Island to rescue them and confront TOC-MAN. The publisher describes the release as a modernization of the original, rather than a new 2D maze game. Bandai Namco’s game page lists the six areas as Pirate, Ruins, Space, Funhouse, Factory, and Mansion.

How the platforming works
The campaign combines running and jumping with moves such as butt-bouncing, rev-rolling, and hovering. Pac-Man can use PAC-DOT attacks, collect items and power-ups, solve environmental puzzles, and take on bosses. Rescuing family members is part of the adventure’s progression. The publisher describes multiple levels and a boss challenge in each of the six areas. The official product page and Bandai Namco’s US store listing detail the game and its modes.
What modes are included?
- Quest Mode: The main platforming adventure across Ghost Island.
- Maze Mode: A set of three-dimensional mazes that add a different spin on Pac-Man’s familiar maze play.
- Original Mode: Completing Quest Mode unlocks the original PAC-MAN game, according to the publisher. Bandai Namco lists the modes and unlock condition.
How good is the Nintendo Switch version?
In Ricardo Fernández’s Nintendo Switch review, updated 24 September 2022, MeriStation described Re-PAC as easy to control and varied across its worlds, and found that the older design could still be enjoyable. The review also valued the collectibles, replayable stages, maze-like sections, and unlockable arcade game. These are one reviewer’s impressions, not a guarantee that every player will respond the same way.

Where the review sees weaknesses
Fernández found that some stages could feel too long and repetitive, and judged the technical refresh modest by modern standards. That distinction matters: Bandai Namco promotes improved visuals, user interface, gameplay, and environmental details, but those are the publisher’s claims about the update, not an independent measure of how ambitious or polished it looks. In the 2022 announcement, Bandai Namco Europe senior vice president of marketing, digital and content Hervé Hoerdt described it as “an enhanced version for a new generation of fans.” The announcement gives the company’s positioning.
Switch graphics modes, as reported in 2022
MeriStation reported two graphics modes on Switch: Performance mode targeted 60 frames per second at reduced resolution, while Quality mode targeted 1080p at 30 frames per second. The reviewer noticed occasional small hitches in Performance mode. These are observations from that review at the time; they do not establish current patch behavior or performance on other platforms.

Which platforms can you play it on?
Bandai Namco lists PAC-MAN WORLD Re-PAC for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PC via Steam, and Nintendo Switch. The publisher lists 26 August 2022 as the release date. Check the listing for your region and platform before buying, since storefront editions and entitlements can differ. Bandai Namco Europe’s launch announcement gives the release date and announced platforms; the current product page lists the game as available now.
For example, the US PlayStation listing says its digital PS4/PS5 product entitles buyers to both digital versions. It also explains that using the PS5 digital version with a PS4 disc requires a PS5 console with a disc drive and the disc inserted. These terms are specific to that US listing; verify the exact product page and edition for your purchase. PlayStation’s US listing provides those details.

Is PAC-MAN WORLD Re-PAC worth playing?
It is a reasonable pick if you want a colorful, accessible 3D platformer with a clear campaign, varied themed worlds, collectibles, and extra Pac-Man modes. The main trade-off is that a familiar, uncomplicated control scheme does not prevent some stages from feeling drawn out or repetitive, as MeriStation’s Switch reviewer observed. Players looking for a technically ambitious remake should temper expectations: the publisher advertises improvements, while that reviewer considered the refresh conservative. The game’s original design dates to 1999, according to Bandai Namco; the 2022 release modernizes it rather than reinventing the premise.
In short, consider it for approachable platforming and Pac-Man extras, not for a radically redesigned adventure. The Switch-specific performance observations above come from a 2022 review and should not be treated as a current cross-platform comparison.
