What is OpenSSF Community Day North America?
It is a regional Linux Foundation and Open Source Security Foundation (OpenSSF) gathering for people who build, maintain or secure open-source software. It is geared toward practical exchange rather than a general-interest technology expo. The 2026 sponsorship prospectus names software developers, security engineers, open-source professionals, maintainers and contributors as its intended audience.
When and where was the 2026 event?
The 2026 edition was held on May 21, 2026, in Minneapolis, Minnesota, co-located with Open Source Summit North America. It was primarily an in-person event; the official FAQ provides event-format and attendee information at the LF Events FAQ.

North American editions have also taken place in Seattle on April 15, 2024, and Denver on June 26, 2025, according to the Linux Foundation event archive.
What was on the 2026 agenda?
The sessions addressed practical approaches to software-supply-chain security, including software bills of materials (SBOMs), digital signatures, vulnerability management, applying SLSA practices, AI security and readiness for post-quantum cryptography. The OpenSSF agenda announcement highlighted talks such as:
- “Petra: SBOMs Without Oversharing for Confidential Supply Chain Transparency”
- “Verification Toward Applying SLSA in Automotive IVI Software Development”
- “Quantum Proofing Sigstore: A Tale of Three Approaches”
- “AI as Security Orchestrator: An Introduction To Darnit”
These topics make the event relevant to teams working on component transparency, artifact verification, vulnerability response and the security implications of emerging technology. They also show that the agenda was not limited to one tool or standard.
Who attends?
The event is intended for people with hands-on or organizational responsibility for open-source and software security: developers, security engineers, maintainers, contributors and other open-source professionals. The 2026 sponsorship prospectus also identifies architects, executive leaders, application developers and technical-team managers among leading job functions, and reports that 68% of attendees held technical positions.
For scale, the OpenSSF 2026 annual report says the 2025 Denver edition had 149 registrations and 164 attendees, representing 108 organizations. It also reports 72 CFP submissions, 29 sessions and 42 speakers. The report’s attendee-geography figures were 88% North America, 5% Europe, 1% Asia and 5% Australia/Oceania; the listed shares total 99%, so they should be read as rounded figures rather than an exact whole.
What did registration include?
For the 2026 event, the LF registration page listed a standard attendee rate of $25 for registrations during the Feb. 2–May 21 period. That was the listed rate for this past edition, not a current price for a future event. Registration included:
- All conference sessions, keynotes and panels
- Lunch and morning and afternoon coffee or snacks
- Conference swag
- On-demand access to sessions
The registration page also described refund timing, substitutions and certificates of attendance. The event FAQ covered business-casual attire and common dietary accommodations. These details applied to the 2026 event and should not be assumed for a later edition.

How the event fits into the series
OpenSSF Community Day North America is one installment in a recurring regional series, with the documented North American dates spanning Seattle in 2024, Denver in 2025 and Minneapolis in 2026. Earlier editions show the program’s range: the 2025 announcement described keynotes, lightning talks and technical sessions on supply-chain security, AI and machine-learning threats, SBOMs and practical tooling, as well as an incident-response and risk-mitigation tabletop exercise.
