OpenLogi is a local-first Logitech Options+ alternative that documents MX Master 4 controls including button remapping, DPI presets, SmartShift, scrolling options, and the Haptic Sense Panel. It also supports Linux, macOS, and Windows. But OpenLogi is still under active development, does not promise full Options+ parity, and requires you to close Logitech’s app before use. That makes it a compelling route to more direct control—not an established drop-in replacement for every feature.
What OpenLogi changes about MX Master 4 setup
OpenLogi is a native application written in Rust for configuring supported Logitech devices. The project describes it as local-first: settings stay on your machine, and it says it does not require a Logitech account or use telemetry. It communicates with supported devices using Logitech’s HID++ protocol, through Logi Bolt, Unifying, or Lightspeed receivers, Bluetooth, or USB. Its project documentation says it is not affiliated with Logitech.
For the MX Master 4, OpenLogi documents button remapping, supported gestures, DPI presets, SmartShift, scroll inversion, wheel resolution, smooth scrolling, sensitivity, thumb-wheel controls, and the Haptic Sense Panel. The roadmap also lists the mouse’s eight-slot Actions Ring. These are documented capabilities, not a claim that every control works identically on every operating system or that the software has been independently tested here. OpenLogi’s introduction and feature overview and its roadmap describe supported controls and platform limits.
Where OpenLogi can—and cannot—replace Options+
OpenLogi’s clearest advantage is platform reach: the project says it supports macOS, Linux, and Windows. That is particularly relevant if you want to customize an MX Master 4 on Linux, where the vendor’s advanced customization examples are not listed as available through Logitech software. OpenLogi also emphasizes local configuration rather than an account-based setup.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
That does not establish full feature parity with Options+. Logitech’s MX Master 4 for Business datasheet says basic mouse functions work without software on systems other than Windows and macOS, while advanced customizations such as the Actions Ring, Smart Actions, and app-specific haptic feedback require Logi Options+ on Windows or macOS. This is a Business-model datasheet; its software statements should not be assumed to cover every consumer-model detail. OpenLogi lists some of the same broad controls, but the available documentation does not establish identical behavior or comparative performance.
Platform and session limits
Some features depend on the operating system or session. OpenLogi says mouse profiles follow pointer focus on macOS, Windows, and Linux X11; automatic app-focus overlays on Linux are specified for X11/XWayland. The roadmap flags platform dependencies, so Linux users should check the relevant feature notes rather than assume that every function works in every desktop session.

Maturity and stability
OpenLogi’s own documentation describes the project as under active development and not yet stable, warning that features and configuration may change. Treat it as evolving software, particularly if you depend on a specific control for daily work. The roadmap states a v0.8.11 baseline and was updated October 3, 2026.
How to try OpenLogi without a receiver conflict
- Close Logitech Options+. OpenLogi says Options+ and OpenLogi contend for HID++ access, and only one can own a receiver at a time. This is a requirement while using OpenLogi, not a documented permanent incompatibility.
- On Linux, close Solaar if it is controlling the device. OpenLogi documents the same HID++ conflict with Solaar.
- Launch OpenLogi and configure the controls it documents for your platform. Check platform and session notes for features such as app-focus profiles before relying on them.
The conflict and launch guidance are in OpenLogi’s official introduction. The documentation does not establish that running multiple HID++ tools together will work reliably.

Who should consider the switch
- Linux users: OpenLogi’s stated Linux support makes it worth considering if you want more configuration than basic mouse operation, while X11/XWayland and other session limits remain relevant.
- Users who prefer local settings: OpenLogi says settings stay on-device and that it requires neither a Logitech account nor telemetry.
- Users who rely on vendor-specific advanced features: Check whether the exact Options+ function you need is available in OpenLogi before switching; the project’s documentation does not prove full parity.
- Anyone who needs stable, predictable behavior: The project’s own warning that it is not yet stable is a reason to weigh its evolving state before making it part of a critical workflow.
