ONLYOFFICE announced Docs v7.3 on January 31, 2023, adding role-colored fields to fillable forms, SmartArt graphics, password-based limits on document actions, a spreadsheet Watch Window, and 13 new spreadsheet functions. The announcement said the release became available for cloud solutions on February 20, 2023. This is a historical overview, not a recommendation of the current release.
What changed in ONLYOFFICE Docs v7.3?
The v7.3 release focused on practical additions across forms, documents, presentations, and spreadsheets. Its headline changes were recipient roles for form fields, SmartArt insertion, more granular editing permissions for password-protected text documents, formula monitoring, and new spreadsheet functions. ONLYOFFICE’s release announcement describes these features; the DocumentServer roadmap also lists several of the additions.

How do form roles work?
Form creators can assign recipient roles to fields. A role’s color marks the fields intended for that recipient, helping people distinguish who should fill in each part of a document. ONLYOFFICE said the feature was intended to simplify document workflows, describing it this way: “You can create and assign various recipient roles for field filling to simplify document workflow.”
The colors are a visual aid, not an access-control guarantee: the release announcement does not say that roles prevent another recipient from editing a field. At the time of the announcement, restricted roles and e-signatures were described as planned for future updates, not as v7.3 capabilities.

The announcement describes forms in DOCXF files and adds three ready-to-use field types:
- Date & Time: includes multiple display options.
- ZIP code
- Credit card
Where can you use SmartArt?
Version 7.3 added SmartArt insertion in documents, spreadsheets, and presentations. It lets users represent information as a visual diagram rather than building the layout from individual shapes. The release announcement names these categories: List, Process, Cycle, Hierarchy, Relationship, Matrix, Pyramid, Picture, and Others.
What does the password-protection change allow?
For text documents, v7.3 added an option to password-protect a document while permitting selected actions. The listed choices are reading, filling in forms, commenting, or tracking changes. This is an editing-permission feature; the release announcement does not specify encryption strength or provide an independent security assessment.
What is the Watch Window in ONLYOFFICE?
The Watch Window helps spreadsheet users inspect formula calculations and results in large sheets without repeatedly navigating to distant cells. It is useful when a formula depends on data elsewhere in a workbook: you can keep an eye on the relevant result while working in another area. The feature is described in the v7.3 announcement and is also listed on the roadmap.

ONLYOFFICE listed 13 new spreadsheet functions in the release announcement; the roadmap corroborates the list:
- Text extraction and splitting: TEXTBEFORE, TEXTAFTER, TEXTSPLIT
- Stacking and reshaping arrays: VSTACK, HSTACK, TOROW, TOCOL, WRAPROWS, WRAPCOLS
- Selecting rows or columns: TAKE, DROP, CHOOSEROWS, CHOOSECOLS
The sources establish that these functions were added to ONLYOFFICE Docs v7.3; they do not establish formula compatibility or feature parity with other spreadsheet suites.

The announcement also lists changes beyond the headline features, including Paste Link between spreadsheets in ONLYOFFICE Workspace, Unicode and LaTeX equation input, Paste Special options for slides, a local XML data import option in spreadsheets, 3D chart rotation, chart error-bar display, and Uzbek dictionaries. It also notes ChatGPT and Zoom plugins, plus API and Document Builder updates. These are release-announcement claims, not an independent evaluation of how well each addition worked.
Release date and product scope
ONLYOFFICE published the Docs v7.3 announcement on January 31, 2023. An update to that announcement says the release became available for cloud solutions on February 20, 2023. The separate announcement for ONLYOFFICE Desktop Editors v7.3 concerns the related desktop application; it should not be treated as identical to the Docs release or as evidence of current product availability.
