OneSpan Sign is designed to address more than the moment a customer signs. OneSpan says its workflow tools can help banks reduce delays caused by document preparation, identity checks, compliance review, missing or mismatched paperwork, and later corrections. E-signing digitizes execution; it does not, by itself, eliminate those operational steps. The outcomes and capabilities below are described in OneSpan materials, not independently evaluated results.
Why bank agreements can take longer than signing
The signer’s click is only one part of completing a bank agreement. Staff may first need to prepare documents and verify identity, and may need to review compliance requirements. After submission, incomplete or mismatched supporting documents can trigger follow-up and rework. OneSpan’s September 23, 2026 article describes these tasks as sources of delay and says, “The signature itself takes seconds.” That is OneSpan’s characterization, not a finding from an independent time study. Read OneSpan’s article.
For a bank, the practical question is therefore not simply whether customers can sign electronically. It is which steps before and after signing the workflow can automate, which still require staff, and how exceptions get resolved.
What OneSpan describes its bank workflow doing
OneSpan’s case study of an unnamed large North American bank describes a process spanning investments, consumer lending, online deposit-account opening, and contracting and procurement. In that implementation, the bank collected customer data, generated and reviewed documents, obtained consent, and captured signatures on a tablet or signature pad. Signed records were then routed to the bank’s content-management system. The case study says records could be made available through an email link, online banking, or printing at a branch. These are details of the described deployment, not a standard configuration guaranteed for every OneSpan customer. Read the bank case study.

The case study also describes workflow rules that block incomplete transactions. Such a control can prevent a transaction from advancing until required items are present, while routing completed signed records to the bank’s records system can reduce manual filing. Neither feature removes the need to define the required information, configure the workflow, or handle exceptions.
How NIGO validation fits in
NIGO means “Not In Good Order”: a submission that is not ready to proceed because required paperwork or information is absent, incorrect, or unsuitable. OneSpan says its NIGO validation checks supporting documents for document type, completeness, quality, and required information. If those checks identify an issue, staff may still need to correct the record or contact the customer.

These figures illustrate what the vendor says happened in particular deployments; they do not establish what another bank should expect. Differences in existing processes, document types, system integration, staffing, and implementation scope can affect results.
What a bank should evaluate before adopting an e-signature workflow
OneSpan names nCino, MeridianLink, and Lendesk as lending-platform integrations and describes APIs and SDKs for workflow customization. Its separate H1 2026 update names a Workato integration. Naming an integration does not, on its own, establish that it is available for a particular buyer’s product edition, geography, or implementation. Confirm the exact integration and deployment requirements with the vendor. OneSpan lending materials.

- Automation boundary: Identify which steps—from document preparation through filing—are automated and which still depend on staff.
- Validation and exceptions: Ask what the system checks, how it flags missing or mismatched items, and how staff correct or override exceptions.
- System fit: Map the workflow to the bank’s loan-origination, core-banking, and content-management systems; confirm how records and status updates move between them.
- Signer channels: Check how customers sign remotely and in branches, what devices are supported, and whether the process is accessible to the bank’s customers.
- Identity, security, and audit evidence: Determine what identity checks and transaction records are available and how they meet the bank’s policies and jurisdictional requirements.
- Implementation scope: Establish which products, document types, business units, and regions are covered, plus the configuration and integration work required.
OneSpan’s retail-banking materials discuss channel support and digitizing account opening. Clarien Bank’s Chief Digital & Marketing Officer, Michael Decouto, described the bank’s roadmap as extending from savings and checking accounts to loans, mortgages, and investment accounts. That is a customer’s stated plan, not evidence that every institution has the same deployment or outcome. Read OneSpan’s retail-banking materials.
