OnePlus has confirmed that the OnePlus 16 will have a 165Hz display, but it has not confirmed that every app can use that refresh rate. The all-app mode is based on a leak attributed to tipster Digital Chat Station, so treat it as expected—not a final, verified feature.
What is confirmed about the OnePlus 16’s 165Hz display?
OnePlus confirmed the OnePlus 16 and its 165Hz screen at a China gaming technology event, according to Android Authority’s July 31, 2026 report. Separately, Notebookcheck reported that OnePlus China president Li Jie described a “global 165Hz ultra-high refresh rate.” That wording supports the display specification, but it does not by itself establish that every system and third-party app will have access to 165Hz.
What does the all-app mode leak claim?
Notebookcheck and Gizchina’s October 6, 2026 report attribute the settings and app-behavior details to Digital Chat Station. The leak reportedly shows a refresh-rate toggle in the regular display settings, with support for system apps and downloaded apps. If accurate, that would make the option easier to find than a Developer Options route used for some apps on the OnePlus 15.
The reported settings screen and all-app behavior have not been confirmed by OnePlus. The original posts cited in coverage were not accessible to independently verify, so the toggle’s final name, location, supported apps, and behavior could change before release.

Does 165Hz mean every app runs at 165 fps?
No. The display’s refresh rate is how often its panel can update; an app’s frame rate is how many new frames it actually renders. A 165Hz mode may let compatible software use the panel’s higher refresh rate, but it cannot make an app render 165 frames per second if the app does not support that rate or the phone cannot sustain it. Gizchina also cautions against treating 165Hz as a guarantee of 165-fps performance.
How does the rumor compare with the OnePlus 15?
Reports describe the OnePlus 15 as limiting 165Hz use to selected apps or games, with Developer Options reportedly providing another route for some apps. The OnePlus 16 leak suggests a more accessible, system-level option. This is a comparison of reported behavior, not a verified feature-by-feature assessment: OnePlus has not confirmed which OnePlus 16 apps will be eligible or whether the mode will work as the leak describes.

What remains unknown?
- Final all-app support: OnePlus has not directly confirmed that downloaded apps can use the 165Hz mode.
- Software details: Notebookcheck reports the phone will ship with ColorOS 17, but the available coverage does not establish the final toggle label, app list, or refresh-rate behavior.
- Launch and availability: Notebookcheck reported on September 17, 2026 that OnePlus had not announced a launch date and that availability outside China was unknown. Gizchina likewise said on October 6 that the phone had not been officially announced.
Until OnePlus publishes the final software details and regional sales information, the safest conclusion is that the 165Hz panel is confirmed, while the convenient all-app mode remains a leak.
