Neither Old Reddit nor Reddit’s current web interface is objectively better for everyone. Choose old.reddit.com if you prefer its classic layout or want a direct route to the less-filtered r/all feed; choose the current experience at reddit.com if Reddit’s documented accessibility and display controls are important to you. Moderators should compare the particular tools they use, since some community-styling and moderation features can differ between interfaces.
What “Old Reddit” and “New Reddit” mean now
“Old Reddit” refers to Reddit’s classic web interface at old.reddit.com. For this comparison, “New Reddit” means the current default web experience at reddit.com. The name “new.reddit.com” is associated with an earlier redesign, but the current official materials cited here do not establish it as a separate, available third interface.
How the browsing experience differs
Feed discovery and r/all
Reddit describes Home as a feed from communities you have joined, Popular as popular posts, and News as news shared across communities. Its All feed is described as “a less filtered feed of the most popular posts on Reddit.” Reddit’s help page directs readers to old.reddit.com/r/all. Reddit says sexually explicit posts are filtered there, other popular NSFW posts may appear, and users can filter communities. That makes Old Reddit a useful choice if reaching r/all is your specific browsing goal; it does not establish that the classic interface is better for browsing overall.
Accessibility and display controls
Reddit’s accessibility documentation for reddit.com lists screen-reader compatibility, video and GIF autoplay settings, reduced motion, light and dark modes, autogenerated subtitles, and community colors and contrast. See Reddit’s accessibility features for the documented controls. The page does not establish that the same controls are available on old.reddit.com. If you rely on a particular setting or assistive-technology combination, check that it works on your device and account rather than assuming the interfaces have feature parity.

Community styling and moderator tools
For ordinary readers, community CSS is rarely a reason by itself to choose an interface. For moderators and community owners, it can matter: Reddit’s community-styling documentation says CSS is “not yet available on new Reddit” and points moderators to tools on the classic version. That distinction concerns customizing a community’s appearance, not a general browsing advantage for every user.
Feature changes can arrive at different times
Reddit’s August 2025 changelog documents changes across reddit.com, its mobile apps, and old.reddit.com. It noted, for example, that a ban-evasion report flow was available on old.reddit.com and planned for reddit.com by the end of that month. This is a historical example of feature timing differing across surfaces, not a statement about the feature’s current rollout status. Is Old Reddit faster?
There is no direct Old Reddit-versus-current-desktop comparison established here, so a general claim that either interface is faster is not supported. Reddit said its October 2023 mobile-web search update made search 85% faster based on the company’s testing; that figure applies to that search update, not to a comparison of the two desktop interfaces. Reddit’s announcement does not provide a basis for ranking Old Reddit and the current web layout by speed.

- Open reddit.com to try the current web experience.
- Compare them on the device and account you actually use. Check your main feed, any accessibility control you rely on, and any moderator task that matters to you.
- Keep the interface that fits your needs; revisit the comparison if Reddit changes the feature you depend on.
