Octopulse is Manifest Audio’s Max for Live MIDI rhythm engine for Ableton Live: it combines eight independent pulse generators to build layered, changing rhythms, melodic sequences, and drum patterns. It is a music-production device, not ELWAVE’s unrelated subsea sensing product.
What is Octopulse for Ableton Live?
Manifest Audio describes Octopulse V2 as a rhythm engine created by Ableton Certified Trainer Noah Pred. Its central idea is to run eight pulse generators with independent clocks and timing controls, then shape their output with shared global controls. The maker positions it for generative composition and performance, including polyrhythms, polymetric layers, Euclidean patterns, and evolving melodic or percussive parts. These are the product’s stated capabilities, not results of an independent performance test. Manifest Audio’s Octopulse product page
Eight pulses, independent timing
Each pulse can have its own rate, multiplier, division, length, and offset. That makes it possible to set up layers that move at different speeds or begin at different points in a cycle, rather than relying on one shared step grid. Octopulse supports patterns of up to 64 steps per Euclidean pattern, according to the maker. Manifest Audio’s Octopulse product page
Variation and pitch options
Listed features include global and per-pulse randomization, parameter locks, scale and key handling, and incoming-MIDI transposition. Output can be monophonic or polyphonic. Together, these options are aimed at keeping a pattern controllable while introducing variation or responding to incoming notes. The product information does not establish how these features perform in a particular Live set.

Can Octopulse make drum patterns?
Yes. Manifest Audio lists instrument mode for melodic or drum programming, so Octopulse can be used to generate rhythmic MIDI for drum parts as well as pitch-based sequences. Its eight pulse layers and pattern controls provide the rhythmic building blocks; what you hear depends on the instrument or drum rack receiving the MIDI and how you configure the device. Does Octopulse require Max for Live?
Yes. Octopulse is a Max for Live device, so it requires an Ableton Live installation with Max for Live available. Manifest Audio’s product page states the requirement as Ableton Live 11.1.x or higher running Max for Live 8.1.x on Mac or PC. Because software requirements can change, check the maker’s page against your installed versions before buying. Manifest Audio’s Octopulse product page

The maker lists the Octopulse device, Utility Boost, and a manual as included. The interface is described as Push-optimized, but the product page does not state that a Push controller is required.
How does MIDI routing work?
Manifest Audio lists discrete routing through its included X-Relay utility. That is relevant if you want individual pulse outputs sent to different destinations in a Live set, such as separate instruments or drum parts. Check the manual for the precise setup steps and routing behavior for your configuration. Manifest Audio’s Octopulse product page

Who is Octopulse best suited to?
- Generative sequencing: useful if you want independent rhythmic layers and controlled variation rather than a single repeating pattern.
- Drum programming: worth considering if you want MIDI pulses to drive drum sounds and build patterns from multiple clocks.
- Pitch-aware parts: the listed scale, key, and incoming-transposition features may suit melodic sequences that need to stay harmonically directed or respond to MIDI input.
- Live performance: the maker positions Octopulse for performance workflows, and its Push-optimized interface may appeal to people who already use Push.
- Routing-heavy Live sets: the X-Relay utility is pertinent if separate pulse destinations matter to your setup.
It is a less straightforward fit if you do not use Ableton Live with Max for Live, or if you need a stand-alone sequencer that runs outside Live.
Price and included bundles
Manifest Audio’s product page displayed a price of $49 plus applicable taxes when accessed on October 4, 2026. This is a dated price observation, not a guarantee of the current price. Do not confuse it with ELWAVE’s Octopulse
The name also belongs to an unrelated ELWAVE subsea sensor product for underwater electric sensing and imaging. That industrial equipment has no connection to Manifest Audio’s Ableton Live MIDI device. If you encounter specifications about electrodes, underwater depth, or marine surveys, they refer to ELWAVE’s product, not this music instrument. ELWAVE Octopulse datasheet
