NXP announced the i.MX RT1060 on February 27, 2018, at Embedded World, expanding its i.MX RT crossover MCU lineup to three families. The launch highlighted up to 1 MB of on-chip memory, High Speed GPIO, CAN-FD, and a synchronous parallel NAND/NOR/PSRAM controller. These are claims from the 2018 announcement—not a new 2026 launch or a complete measure of the chip’s performance.
What NXP announced about the i.MX RT1060
NXP presented the RT1060 as the latest addition to its i.MX RT crossover processor line. The company said the addition expanded the series to three scalable families: RT1020, RT1050, and RT1060. The announcement emphasized memory and peripheral capabilities for real-time applications, including up to 1 MB of on-chip memory, High Speed GPIO, CAN-FD, and a synchronous parallel NAND/NOR/PSRAM controller.
Those details describe NXP’s February 2018 launch claims. The announcement is a vendor source, not an independent benchmark report; it does not establish comparative performance results, pricing, current inventory, or the RT1060’s current lifecycle status. See NXP’s February 27, 2018 announcement.
What “crossover MCU” means
“Crossover” is NXP’s positioning, not a separate processor architecture. In its 2018 description, the company framed the series as combining high performance and integration while minimizing cost for connected IoT edge devices and machine-learning functions at the edge. NXP’s current RT1050 product page describes the idea as application-processor-level performance and integration paired with MCU ease of use and real-time functionality.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
For embedded developers, the framing points to a design target: applications needing substantial processing and integrated peripherals while retaining the real-time behavior and MCU-oriented development approach associated with microcontrollers. It does not by itself guarantee that a given device meets a particular latency, power, or cost target; those depend on the design and device configuration.
How to compare i.MX RT family members
The 2018 announcement grouped RT1020, RT1050, and RT1060 as scalable families, but the sources here do not provide a full, same-generation specification table. Compare the exact candidate parts against the workload and board requirements rather than treating one headline figure as a family-wide ranking.

- 5-in-1 USB-C Hub: Experience comprehensive connectivity featuring a Power Delivery input, two USB-A 2.0 ports, a USB-A 3.0 port, and an HDMI port. (Note: The USB-C power delivery input port is only for connecting an external wall charger to power your laptop and cannot power peripheral devices.)
- 90W Pass-Through Charging: Achieve optimal charging with 90W pass-through power to your laptop, supported by a total input of 100W, with the hub reserving 10W for operational efficiency. (Note: Wall charger not included.)
- Quick Data Transfers: Accelerate your productivity with rapid data transfers using a high-speed 5Gbps USB 3.0 port and two 480Mbps USB 2.0 ports.
- 4K HDMI Display: Enhance your visual experience with a hub capable of delivering 4K resolution at 30Hz in both mirror and extend modes. Please note that this hub is compatible with MacBook (macOS 12 and newer), Windows 10 and 11, ChromeOS, and laptops equipped with DP Alt Mode and Power Delivery. Note: This device is not compatible with Linux.
- What You Get: Anker USB-C Hub (5-in-1, 4K HDMI), welcome guide, 18-month warranty, and our friendly customer service.
- Core and clock: Check the exact part’s processor core and maximum clock against the workload. NXP’s current RT1050 page lists a Cortex-M7 up to 600 MHz; its RT1024 page lists a Cortex-M7 up to 500 MHz. These specifications apply to those named family members, not automatically to the RT1060.
- Memory: Separate on-chip RAM and flash from memory supplied externally. NXP’s 2018 RT1060 announcement says up to 1 MB of on-chip memory, while the current RT1024 page lists 4 MB on-chip flash and 256 KB RAM. These figures are not directly interchangeable memory categories.
- Peripherals and connectivity: Verify required interfaces, including whether the design needs the RT1060 announcement’s highlighted High Speed GPIO, CAN-FD, or synchronous parallel memory controller.
- Real-time behavior and power: Measure or validate latency and power for the intended workload and operating conditions. The announcement’s feature list alone does not establish either for a particular application.
- Security, package, and development support: Confirm the security features and package options on the exact part’s documentation, then check toolchain and software compatibility. NXP describes MCUXpresso support on its RT1050 product page; do not infer identical support details for every part from that page.
For reference, the current NXP pages identify the RT1050 as active and list a Cortex-M7 up to 600 MHz, and identify RT1024 as active with a Cortex-M7 up to 500 MHz, 4 MB on-chip flash, and 256 KB RAM. These are product-page details accessed in 2026; the pages do not state a publication date in the available source information. Consult the pages for the relevant family member: RT1050 and RT1024.
How the i.MX RT portfolio evolved after 2018
Later devices show the line branching toward different requirements. Their features belong to those products, not retroactively to the RT1060.
