Nvidia is growing rapidly because demand for its data-center computing systems is expanding, but demand alone does not guarantee sales. In the quarter ended July 26, 2026, the company reported $96.221 billion in revenue, up 106% from a year earlier, including $89.0 billion from Data Center, up 117%. Turning orders and interest into revenue still depends on a complex supply chain—and on customers having the facilities, electricity, and financing to deploy the systems.

What is driving Nvidia’s growth?

Data Center is the central growth engine. Nvidia’s August 26, 2026 earnings release reported $89.0 billion in Data Center revenue for Q2 FY2027, up 117% year over year. Total revenue was $96.221 billion, up 106%. The release attributed the quarter’s growth to Data Center products for accelerated computing and AI solutions; Nvidia’s filing for the quarter said Blackwell accounted for the majority of system shipments.

The broader business had already been expanding quickly. For FY2026, Nvidia reported $215.9 billion in revenue, a 65% increase year over year. Its annual report said Data Center compute revenue grew 59% and Data Center networking revenue grew 142% over that fiscal year. Those full-year figures show that networking and integrated systems contribute to the business alongside accelerator compute; they are not directly comparable to the later Q2 FY2027 growth rates.

Actual results versus the next-quarter outlook

For Q3 FY2027, Nvidia forecast revenue of $108.0 billion, plus or minus 2%. That is management guidance, not a reported result. Nvidia said the forecast assumes no Data Center compute revenue from China. The company’s August 26, 2026 release presents the outlook as a forecast, so it should not be read as revenue already earned or as a guarantee of delivery.

Why can supply constraints limit sales when demand is strong?

Nvidia’s products depend on a large production chain, and a data-center system is more complex than a single chip. In its SEC filing for the quarter ended July 26, 2026, Nvidia said current supply constraints, production scale, and system complexity can create delays and make it difficult to match supply with demand. The company also disclosed risks including revenue volatility, product-quality problems, lower yields, higher material costs, inventory provisions, and warranty costs.

To secure production capacity and inputs, Nvidia’s supply and capacity commitments had risen from $119 billion in the prior quarter to $279 billion as of July 26, 2026, according to that filing. Such commitments may support production planning, but they do not guarantee that suppliers will deliver on time, that systems will meet quality expectations, or that customers will take and deploy every unit.

The customer has to be ready, too

Manufacturing is only one side of the constraint. Nvidia says customers need land, power, a data-center shell, and capital to install its infrastructure. Expanding those resources can take years and involve regulatory approvals, engineering work, and construction. If a customer’s site or financing is not ready, available systems may still be delayed from deployment, affecting when Nvidia can recognize revenue.

Nvidia also notes that some less-capitalized AI cloud providers and model makers can have difficulty securing long-term infrastructure contracts and investment-grade financing. The company describes initiatives to guarantee selected infrastructure inputs and support some partner buildouts, as well as a new business model with selected AI cloud partners. These approaches may help address deployment barriers, but they expose Nvidia to the performance of customers and partners and can affect its financial results, as the Q2 FY2027 SEC filing cautions.

What are Nvidia’s biggest risks to continued growth?

Production execution and costs

When production volumes rise and systems become more complex, manufacturing delays or lower yields can prevent supply from matching demand. Nvidia’s Q2 FY2027 filing lists possible consequences that include higher material and warranty costs, quality issues, and revenue volatility. These are disclosed risks; they do not establish that every problem has occurred or quantify how much any one risk will affect future results.

Data-center construction and customer funding

Customers must finance and build suitable infrastructure before they can operate Nvidia systems at scale. Power availability, land, construction, permitting, and capital can each slow a project or reduce its eventual size. Nvidia says customers may postpone purchases of new architectures when infrastructure is unavailable, funding is constrained, or adoption progresses more gradually than expected. That describes a risk to future purchases, not evidence that a slowdown has already happened.

Export controls and China assumptions

Geographic sales expectations have also been affected by U.S. export rules. Nvidia’s FY2026 annual report said the U.S. government informed the company in April 2025 that H20 exports to China would require a license; the resulting controls automatically reduced Nvidia’s internal FY2026 stretch-plan targets. Separately, its Q3 FY2027 revenue outlook assumes no Data Center compute revenue from China. These statements do not mean all Nvidia exports or all China-related sales are banned.

How much of Nvidia’s growth depends on AI data centers?

In Q2 FY2027, Data Center accounted for about 92.5% of Nvidia’s reported revenue: $89.0 billion out of $96.221 billion. This calculation uses the rounded Data Center figure in Nvidia’s release, so the percentage is approximate. It shows how concentrated the latest quarter’s revenue was in that segment, but it does not establish that every Data Center sale was exclusively for AI or predict the segment’s future share.

The FY2026 annual report’s separate compute and networking growth rates also matter: Data Center growth is not just a story about accelerators. Networking grew faster than compute in that fiscal year, although those rates cover FY2026 and should not be conflated with Q2 FY2027’s reported segment growth.

What to watch in the next results

The most useful indicators are whether reported revenue follows management’s guidance, whether Data Center growth remains the main contributor, and whether Nvidia can deliver systems as customers complete the infrastructure needed to use them. The distinction matters: a strong forecast signals management’s expectation, while reported sales depend on production, shipment, customer readiness, and the financial period in which revenue is recognized.

Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang said in the company’s February 25, 2026 results release: “Computing demand is growing exponentially — the agentic AI inflection point has arrived. Grace Blackwell with NVLink is the king of inference today — delivering an order-of-magnitude lower cost per token — and Vera Rubin will extend that leadership even further,”. This is management’s characterization of demand and product positioning, not an independent benchmark conclusion. Nvidia’s reported financial results are a separate measure.

Nvidia’s August 26, 2026 release named CoreWeave, Google Cloud, Microsoft Azure, Oracle Cloud Infrastructure, and Nebius among providers running Vera Rubin systems. That offers one view of how customers may access the infrastructure through cloud providers, alongside building their own systems; availability and terms depend on each provider.
