To compare NVIDIA’s P/E ratio with its price-to-sales ratio, use the same valuation date and clearly identify whether the denominator is trailing or forecast earnings or revenue. P/E relates the share price to earnings per share; price-to-sales relates it to revenue per share. NVIDIA’s reported fiscal 2026 revenue and earnings growth, and its fiscal Q2 2027 revenue growth, are useful context—but they are historical results, not current valuation multiples or promises of future growth.
What P/E and price-to-sales measure
Both ratios compare a stock’s market price with a company financial measure, but they answer different questions. For per-share calculations, use the share price and the corresponding per-share figure from the same accounting period and basis. At the company level, the equivalent calculations use market capitalization divided by earnings or revenue.
| Measure | Calculation | What it helps show | Important limitation |
|---|---|---|---|
| Price-to-earnings (P/E) | Share price ÷ earnings per share (EPS), or market capitalization ÷ earnings | How much investors pay for each dollar of earnings | Earnings can change with margins, expenses, and accounting results; specify GAAP or non-GAAP and trailing or forward EPS. |
| Price-to-sales (P/S) | Share price ÷ sales (revenue) per share, or market capitalization ÷ revenue | How much investors pay for each dollar of revenue | Revenue does not show how much becomes profit, so P/S does not replace an earnings measure. |
A ratio is only interpretable when its inputs are defined. A trailing multiple uses results already reported over a stated past period; a forward multiple uses estimates. Do not compare a trailing P/E with a forward P/S as though they measure the same time period.
What NVIDIA’s reported growth says—and does not say
NVIDIA’s annual filing reports fiscal 2026 revenue of $215.9 billion, up 65% year over year, and diluted EPS of $4.90, up 67% year over year. NVIDIA attributed revenue growth to continued momentum in accelerated computing and AI. These figures describe the fiscal year, not a current trailing-twelve-month figure or a forecast. In its results announced August 26, 2026, for the quarter ended July 26, 2026, NVIDIA reported fiscal Q2 2027 revenue of $96.2 billion, up 106% from a year earlier. It reported diluted EPS of $2.46 on a GAAP basis and $2.22 on a non-GAAP basis. Those are quarterly results; do not treat the revenue growth rate as an annual rate or substitute one EPS basis for another without labeling it. NVIDIA fiscal Q2 2027 results release.
NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang characterized the opportunity in that August 26, 2026 release: “AI has reached its inflection point. It’s doing useful work. Its tokens are productive and profitable. Now, compute is revenue.” This is management’s view of the market and company opportunity, not independent evidence that the growth rate will continue.

How to compare NVIDIA’s multiples fairly
- Set the valuation date and share price. Record the date of the quote and its source. A share price changes, so a multiple without a date is not a reliable snapshot.
- Choose the measurement period. Decide whether you are using trailing or forward earnings and revenue. Keep the period consistent when comparing ratios or companies.
- Choose the earnings basis. For P/E, state whether EPS is GAAP or non-GAAP. NVIDIA’s fiscal Q2 2027 release, for example, reported both $2.46 GAAP diluted EPS and $2.22 non-GAAP diluted EPS.
- Calculate each ratio from matched inputs. Divide the dated share price by EPS for P/E and by sales per share for P/S. Alternatively, divide market capitalization by the corresponding total earnings or revenue. Do not pair a share price with financial results from an unstated period.
- Interpret the ratios alongside growth and profitability. Compare growth rates for matching periods, and assess whether revenue is translating into earnings. Strong historical growth can help explain investor interest, but neither ratio by itself establishes whether a stock is cheap or expensive.
The reported figures above do not establish a live NVIDIA P/E or price-to-sales ratio. To calculate a current multiple, obtain a dated market quote and the exact trailing or forward financial denominator you intend to use. A forward multiple also depends on estimates, which can change.

These reported growth figures alone cannot answer that question. A valuation judgment needs a dated price, a defined earnings or revenue period, and assumptions about future results. P/E is sensitive to earnings and profitability; P/S can be useful when considering revenue, but it does not account for the share of sales that becomes profit. Investors also face business risks: NVIDIA’s filings warn that risks to the company’s business, financial condition, or results could harm the company and cause its stock price to decline.
