The specific flaw was not confirmed by NVIDIA. In August 2024, The Information reported, citing two people involved in producing the chips and server hardware, that NVIDIA’s B100, B200 and GB200 products were delayed by three months or more because of design flaws. Later reporting said Blackwell racks began shipping to customers at the end of 2024. NVIDIA’s July 2026 filing said Blackwell accounted for most of its system shipments, while also noting supply constraints. These are different milestones and sources: the 2024 flaw claim remains unnamed-source reporting, not a company-confirmed explanation.

What did the report say about the Blackwell delay?

In August 2024, The Information reported that NVIDIA’s upcoming B100 and B200 GPUs and GB200 systems had been delayed by three months or more because of design flaws. The account attributed the claim to two people involved in producing the chips and server hardware.

The reported duration was an estimate from those sources, not an officially confirmed NVIDIA schedule. The cited public evidence does not identify the precise technical defect or independently establish the report’s explanation. It is therefore accurate to say the products were reportedly delayed over design flaws, not that NVIDIA confirmed a particular flaw caused the delay.

Which products and customers were involved?

B100, B200 and GB200

The report covered NVIDIA’s B100 and B200 data-center GPUs and its GB200 system. These belong to the Blackwell data-center platform; they are not consumer GeForce graphics cards. NVIDIA had announced the Blackwell platform in March 2024, including B200 GPUs and GB200 systems.

A DGX GB200 system combines 72 NVIDIA Blackwell GPUs with 36 NVIDIA Grace CPUs, according to NVIDIA’s launch announcement. NVIDIA also said the system could deliver up to a 30x performance increase over NVIDIA H100 for large language model inference. That figure is NVIDIA’s stated comparison, not an independent test result.

Microsoft, Google and Meta

The August report said the delay could affect planned deployments by Microsoft, Google and Meta, among other customers. It warned that a delay of three months or more could disrupt plans to build large clusters. Those customer impacts were reported by The Information; they should not be treated as a company-confirmed account of each customer’s delivery schedule.

What was NVIDIA’s announced schedule in March 2024?

NVIDIA announced its Blackwell platform and DGX GB200 and DGX B200 systems in March 2024. At the time, the company said DGX SuperPOD systems using GB200 and B200 were expected to be available through global partners later that year. That launch announcement establishes what NVIDIA announced and expected then; it does not validate the later report’s account of a design flaw.

When did Blackwell systems start shipping?

In later coverage, The Information reported that Blackwell racks began shipping to customers at the end of 2024, following an initial delay of about three months. The report also discussed customer delays associated with glitchy racks. This is a later reported shipment milestone for integrated racks; it does not establish that every customer received systems on time or that the underlying 2024 flaw claim was confirmed.

What did NVIDIA say about Blackwell shipments in 2026?

In its Form 10-Q for the quarter ended July 26, 2026, NVIDIA said Blackwell continued to account for the majority of its system shipments. The filing also described supply constraints and noted that production complexity could bring risks including delays, quality issues and lower yields.

This filing gives NVIDIA’s later description of its shipment mix and general operating risks. It does not retrospectively confirm the exact 2024 design-flaw allegation, and “the majority of our system shipments” does not mean every customer received a system on schedule.

Quick Recap

How to read the timeline

Date What was reported or announced What the evidence establishes
March 2024 NVIDIA announced Blackwell, including B200 GPUs and GB200 systems, and expected relevant DGX SuperPOD configurations to be available through global partners later in the year. NVIDIA’s product announcement and then-stated expectation.
August 2024 The Information said B100, B200 and GB200 faced a delay of three months or more because of design flaws, citing two people involved in production. An unnamed-source report; NVIDIA did not confirm the specific flaw in the cited public evidence.
End of 2024 The Information later said Blackwell racks began shipping after an initial delay of about three months. A reported customer-shipment milestone for racks, not proof that all deployments were on time.
Quarter ended July 26, 2026 NVIDIA said Blackwell made up the majority of its system shipments and disclosed supply constraints and production-related risks. NVIDIA’s company-reported shipment mix and general risk disclosures for that reporting period.

What remains unconfirmed?

  • The exact engineering defect behind the reported 2024 delay is not established by the cited public evidence.
  • NVIDIA’s launch materials and 2026 filing do not independently verify The Information’s unnamed-source account of the flaw.
  • The report’s customer-impact claims do not establish the delivery experience of every named customer or deployment.
