NVIDIA’s August 4, 2025 security bulletin addressed a vulnerability chain in Triton Inference Server’s Python backend that Wiz Research said could let an unauthenticated remote attacker take over a server. The three issues affect Windows and Linux deployments running Triton versions before 25.07; NVIDIA listed version 25.07 as the update for them. That is the bulletin’s historical fixed version, not a statement that 25.07 is the latest Triton release today.

What happened in the Triton vulnerability chain?

The disclosure concerns NVIDIA Triton Inference Server, specifically its Python backend—not NVIDIA GPU hardware. Wiz Research described a sequence in which a crafted request can expose the name of a private shared-memory region. An attacker can then use Triton’s shared-memory API to access that region and potentially exploit the resulting memory access to execute code.

Wiz said the chained flaws could allow a remote, unauthenticated attacker to gain complete control of the server. That is the potential impact of the chain described by Wiz, not a separate aggregate severity score assigned by NVIDIA. The sources do not establish that a specific victim was compromised.

How the attack sequence works

  1. A crafted, large request triggers an error that reveals the name of an internal shared-memory region.
  2. The attacker uses Triton’s shared-memory API with that name to obtain read/write access to the Python backend’s private region.
  3. That access may allow corruption of backend data structures or manipulation of inter-process communication messages, creating a path to remote code execution.

Wiz’s technical account describes the attack chain; NVIDIA’s bulletin confirms the affected CVEs and their individual severity ratings. Read Wiz Research’s technical disclosure.

Which CVEs are involved?

NVIDIA’s August 2025 bulletin lists three vulnerabilities affecting Triton Inference Server for Windows and Linux in versions before 25.07. The scores below are NVIDIA’s individual CVSS 3.1 base scores; NVIDIA did not publish a separate score for the combined chain.

CVE Severity and score NVIDIA’s description
CVE-2025-23319 High — 8.1 An out-of-bounds write in the Python backend that could lead to code execution, denial of service, data tampering, or information disclosure.
CVE-2025-23320 High — 7.5 A large request could exceed the Python backend’s shared-memory limit, potentially disclosing information.
CVE-2025-23334 Medium — 5.9 An out-of-bounds read in the Python backend that could disclose information.

What could an attacker do?

If successfully chained, the vulnerabilities could expose a server and the workloads it handles to serious risks. Wiz identified potential model theft, exposure of sensitive data processed by models, manipulation of model responses, and use of a compromised server as a foothold for moving deeper into an organization’s network. These are possible consequences, not confirmation that any named organization experienced an attack.

Which Triton deployments should teams check?

Inventory Triton deployments on both Windows and Linux, then identify the installed release, whether the Python backend is in use, and whether the instance is reachable from untrusted networks. The bulletin identifies releases before 25.07 as affected and 25.07 as the updated version for these CVEs. For remediation now, follow NVIDIA’s current Triton release instructions rather than assuming that the historical 25.07 release is still the latest available.

Prioritize review of internet-accessible or otherwise untrusted-network-reachable instances. The disclosure describes remote unauthenticated exploitation, but that does not mean every deployment has the same exposure.

How should administrators respond?

  1. Find the deployments. Check cloud and on-premises inventories or vulnerability-management tools for Triton, recording operating system, release, Python backend use, and network reachability. Inventory tools can help locate workloads; they do not apply NVIDIA’s fix.
  2. Update Triton. Use NVIDIA’s current release instructions to install a release that addresses the vulnerabilities. NVIDIA’s August 4, 2025 bulletin lists version 25.07 as the updated version for this chain.
  3. Restrict sensitive interfaces. Follow NVIDIA’s Secure Deployment Considerations Guide. The bulletin specifically advises production users to ensure logging and shared-memory APIs are protected for authorized users.
  4. Review exposure and access. Reassess which networks and users can reach affected services and APIs, especially for deployments exposed to untrusted networks.
